Jeans and a T-shirt
Conductors Uniform is appropriate for a newbie.
come as you are but we would prefer a shower and a dose on Beano before entering the room

Yup. Beano. Crop dusting is prohibited.
Bnsftrains,
I have to hand it to you..You ask what have to be some of the dumbest questions. And yet, each does cause one to think.
I agree with david1. Just dress comfortable and leave Homer Simpson at home.
"Pappy"
First thing I would suggest is next time, take a shower and wear clean clothes. Then next,go and by some new clothes as wearing holey pants and t shirts just dont work unles you have been begging on the corner. So you being an adult, I don't think you should need for us or someone to make sure you are dressed unless..... But since you asked, wear a tuxedo
Yes I feed the troll.
But since you asked, wear a tuxedo
That would be funnier than h**l, we all show up at the OGR grandstand meeting at York in tuxedos!

DON'T LET THESE GUYS RAG ON YOU -YOU POSED A LIGIT QUESTION - MOST IMPORTANT LEAVE THE BODY ODOR (if any) AT HOME. BTW, THEY ALL CROP DUST" TO SOME DEGREE!!
One could always try wearing their birthday suit I suppose. That might help determine if the rest of one's wardrobe would be appropriate or not.
From what I have observed over the years, one can't go wrong wearing blue denim bib overalls accompanied by a nice red bandana around the neck.
I once wore an ascot tie and velvet smoking jacket to a train show, and (believe me) I won't make that mistake again after a most unfortunate encounter in the parking lot with some narrow gauge loving ruffians.
Ok ok ok I got this. A train pattern button down collar shirt, denim shorts, white ankle socks, with flip flops, a Lionel paperboy sachel, a propeller beanie and a fist full of balloons.

I think in another post forum member JDaddy said he has some boxer shorts that have trains on them. Might want to throw that one in there too.
On second thought(Thanks John!) The satchel bag should match the shirt. No kidding, I saw this at York minus the balloons and propeller. Trend setting....Its amazing what you see sitting at your table in the Silver Hall.
Jeans and a T-shirt
I agree with you all the way, david1. Jeans and a T-shirt...not necessarily with a train theme. Matt

Only if you have a train tattoo!

You mean to tell me not everyone in the hobby has a train tatoo?

Just add some aluminum paint, and he could be the Silver Streak. <rim shot>

Anyone remember VOX Omar, Trey, or Kane ? … I think HE’S BACK!!!
Depending on where the Train Show is…You might not need the Jacket…
Happy New Year …Rick

Unless you ran there, sweat pants are not acceptable. And "fanny packs" only work if you can speak fluent French-Canadian.

For me its jeans and a T-shirt with a jacket. The one show I go to is in January so I dress warmly. I also have a small backpack to carry anything I get, better than having to carry stuff in bags all day.
An Engineer's hickory blue and white striped hat, bib front overalls, jacket, dark gray Woolrich Engineer vest, Engineer boots, with heavy boot socks, a 'Signal Red,' with white designs, bandanna, goggles and heavy duty leather work gloves, with long, heavy cuffs.
And you're all dressed up for the dance!

Albany is a fairly laid back area. Personally, I don't wear sweat pants outside my home or the gym.
IMHO, something like jeans and a clean "T" shirt is fine.
Something decent?

Forgive the double entendre
I don't think folks are picky. As a matter of self-respect, I would typically always wear a collared shirt and at least decent jeans. I see too many people today who go out and look as if they are coming from raking leaves, painting the house, or working on the car. I do all those things too, I just have old clothing in which I do them and that clothing is not worn outside the house. When people dress like slobs, it has a subtle and degrading impact on society. To illustrate this decline in our culture, and because this is a train-related forum, check for photos of how people dressed during the postwar period (I think some of our old NY forum photos are a good example) to how they dress today. It's not a question of money either. I could go on but I will stop there.
Thank you for starting my day with a good laugh!
If you are buying or selling, your presentation and attire will set the tone of the transaction.
I NEVER wear train-related outerwear...only my Thomas the Tank Engine boxer shorts.
From the vendor point of view, here are an all-American, stylish couple (yes, it's my wife and me) at the White Plains, NY show after we changed from our tuxedos and ball gowns... Just kidding. You'll be fine in sweatpants, with a fanny pack-- whatever you choose.
