Are you allowed to run trains all year, or just during the Holidays?
Do they show any interest in your “all year” layout…or could they care less?
If you answered “just during the Holidays”.  Do they help with the setup, and run the trains, or could they care less?
My wife could care less and constantly reminds me that she’s not interested, when any Train subject comes up.!

My wife is extremely supportive of my hobby, or I should say our hobby. We have trains everywhere and our daughter has the collector gene. One thing I have learned over the years is to always mix the hobby with other family interests. A train show followed by lunch out or a visit to one of her favorite places along the way always helps. It is all about perspective and including the family whenever possible.

All the best,

My sweetie always supports any project I do, from getting back into "the World's Greatest

Hobby" to the myriad of other Adventures taken on by me.

For Christmas though, we do not have those layouts that many of you display around

our decorated Christmas tree and most importantly, the Manger Scene. however, this year I did order and put around the tree that Lionel Thomas' and friends Christmas set,

which will stay in place until right before the Birthday, with her permission, of course.

So yes, my wife of 48 years has a Holiday Spirit of this hobby.

I run my trains whenever I want and buy them whenever I see something I want.

(yea, right -this guy is delusional)

Actually, my wife is very supportive of my hobby. She actively supports it by aiding me in the ferrequinology part of it. She has also purchased items for my layout and stops up there once in a while to watch. She herself, has no particular interest or passion in trains besides being a hubby supporter.

I;M SINGLE-my ex suggested to me to go to a train show-I collected militaria-she realized she created a monster-she thought  all you needed was 1 steamer and 1 diesel-she did not realize there were many different types and variations of both-then I heard about it-another one-I;m 65 aqnd single with trains.i;m at the age where

for 1 hour of joy I do not need 23 hours of bs.

to you members who have a wife who supports your hobby and spending-bless her

every day.

My brides uncle worked for the railroad here in Chicago. Her Aunt and Uncle lived in a small Cape Cod style home in the suburbs. Upstairs was entirely her Uncles playroom. She has very vivid memories of being 5-6, in the upstairs bathroom, and here Uncle sending a train through the tunnels he had made into the bathroom.

I just try to keep her from seeing some of the current price tags on thing!  All in all she is pretty supportive.

Mike you are a genius....I do the exact same thing. She loves my trains. It keeps me occupied wich means she has less problems lol.  Originally Posted by Miketg:

i don't know how my dad did it, but from the day after Thanksgiving until Jan 2nd, he took over the dining room (we had Christmas dinner at the Grandparent's house) with an L-shaped layout that gradually over the years grew to nearly the size of the room.  mostly based on O31 tubular track with tradition Lionel freight trains & action cars (cattle, milk, etc) , in the last years we lived in that house (late 50's), a loop of Super-O running a Santa Fe AA passenger train joined the fun.  have to admit that on Christmas morning it was hard to obey the "No Running Trains Until After Breakfast" rule.

My wife has always been supportive of my interests in both models and the prototype. We've taken train vacations (including NRHS conventions) and she's accompanied me to many a train show and meet. If I show interest in an item, she says "buy it if you want." She even painted a steam locomotive for my birthday several years ago. I am either lucky, or "I know how to pick 'em."

My wife was responsible for getting me back into O gauge with the gift of a K-Line set at Christmas and since, she has called the layout "cute" ( which somewhat irks me) and while not understanding any of it, she knows its something I enjoy..so she she is both amused and tolerant of the hobby. I recently took over another spare bedroom and promptly installed a clockwork layout in addition to the one I already had in 3 rail. I keep on a budget and all is well in our little universe.

Mine is super supportive, and likes to be involved in the scenery aspect, though the last year she got bit by the Lego bug really hard, and she's been building a nice L-shaped diorama of her own (with my own additions). With our new house being built, the bonus room upstairs is all mine to do whatever with. She's the one that travels with me to train shows, and says, "Yes, get that one, it's beautiful."

I am most fortunate indeed.

My wife used to be very supportive of the trains.  Even came with me to Greenbergs in Monroeville, Pa and York many times.  Anymore, though, not so much.  I think she tolerates them but feels it's a waste of money and time.  I'll never get rid of the trains or military models I have...her, on the other hand, Hmmmmmm.

hi K.C. She lets me do what I like albeit with a lot of eye rolling ha ha. in fact I live in a split level with a nicely finished downstairs with a bar, family room, train room bath shower etc. and she let me run track around the whole periphery of the downstairs through walls and eventhrough the bathroom down there!!! People laugh when they are in the bath and a train comes through sounding horns and bells So long story short she tolerates my passion lol

Tolerant and supportative...she still receives Charles Ro stuff due to some Christmas trains she has bought me over time.

Nevertheless she still refers to the layout as "the mess", not as much now since it is sort of out of sight in the attic over the garage. It is in fact a mess right now since I haven't been able to work on it in several years.

In 1992 she allowed me to build a 14x32, 5 track, high twin shelf operation in her kitchen-breakfast room at our mountain cottage. But she made me stain everything to closely match the cabinets. The other side of the story is that she was determined to get me off her carpet in the Den.

My wife is very supportive in my train works.  She will usually come with me for one day at YORK, where we will have a great day walking doing breakfast, lunch and then have a nice dinner somewhere.  She gives me advice on layout at times when another set of eyes are beneficial.  When I first started out she would get me stuff at YORK for my Christmas present but being that I don't need to much she doesn't now.

We are comparatively newly weds and right from the beginning she was very supportive of "our hobby". She was a major contributor to a renovation project we did earlier this year and just loves to go on any train related activities. In terms of Birthday and Christmas presents, she always makes site they are O-Gauge related and something I would like to compliment the layout. Frankly, I do not think it could get any better. I recognize very well that I am truly blessed.

Her background, her dad, was involved with trains...he worked on and supervised

RPO mail operations on the Pennsy.  She collected Pennsy RPO's and has a layout

in the basement, but it is dormant, as her former boss after she retired became ill,

and she was called back to work, which income she likes, to upgrade the kitchen.   I never rode a train as a child, she did, and we have ridden steam train excursions, but she had to stop for a while due to asthma problems with smoke, which are now better

controlled.

My wife come from a model and train hobby family. When we were dating I recall her Dad sitting in the living room building Walthers O scale kits. So she knew going in what it was like. The fact she has a 50's era Lionel train of her family helps too. She does wonder why when I have so many trains now why new ones come in the mail weekly!

I bought her and the grandkids a WbB Girls GG-1 set for Christmas......she loves GG-1 as her dad often dragged her to watch them as a child.

well I got to many hobbies...collecting hotwheels all yearlong winter is running my trains and spring summer and fall im racing my gas r/c boats....she puts up with it...just got a deal/won a 3rd rail prr Q2 under 500...and 3rd rail has one for sale for 1300....and there 3 of them on the bay ,at 899 2 other at 1200...i show her this to show how great my deal is....thats makes her happy.....
