Maybe it's an EV?😀
Before the 4 stack retrofit, a single stack should be directly in front of the cab. From some prototype shots it does not extend very far if at all above the cab.
Mark,
This is a VO-1000 made by Baldwin. I have a PS-2 P&WV. The stack on mine is offset to the left about 6 scale ft in front of the cab. It should show in the picture. I believe Baldwin used WW2 submarine engines in their build. It was a notoriously bad runner in the field. To MTH's credit, the sign off on my model is: How did she run? She ran like a Baldwin !!

Those WW-2 submarine engines were mostly (if not exclusively) opposed-piston engines from Fairbanks Morse (later used by FM in its railroad diesel units, where they were less successful because of the very different operating conditions for an over-the-road diesel-electric RR locomotive). Baldwin used various models of the VO engine design from De La Vergne (see The Diesel Builders Vol. 3 Baldwin Locomotive Works, by John F. Kirkland).
Back to Mark's question. Looks like MTH does not know which version they will produce (1 or 4 stacks), so they photoshopped out the stack(s).
Maybe railroad and model specific?

Ron - this question was promulgated by my observation that the model was released exactly as pictured on the MTH website, without any exhaust ports or stacks. Simulated diesel exhaust (smoke unit) is, fortunately, not one of the features.

Correct.
