I see a used LC engine on the cheap...just wondering

No, a CAB2 Legacy remote has no "native" way of talking to the Lionchief engine proprietary protocol.
Base 3 features include a bridge- (communications adaptation between protocols and signals) but is not yet released.
DIY folks using several components and open source code had made a bridge example- but this is not a commercial product and would require a lot of skill and components to add to a Legacy base to be able to convert and translate TMCC commands to Lionchief command format.
Yea, I see that now after reading the online manual I have never owned a LC product and Im concerned about the quality as well
One exception to Vernon’s general reply - the Cab2 will run a LionChief + 2.0 engine.
I was thinking of getting this and letting the grandkids run it separate when I'm running the rest on CAB2...hmmm
SANTA FE LIONCHIEF 44 TONNER
While that engine won’t work with the Cab2, it can be run on the same layout that uses the Cab2 using the included LionChief remote or through the free LionChief app on a smart phone or tablet.
right...I'm starting to see why Lionel is (still) trying to develop the CAB3...but I'm still reluctant to get a LC product as I've heard various opinions on the quality. Might work foe the GK's
