There is a Williams 773 Golden Memories Hudson loco on e-bay for $289.00, it is 23 inches long, the price seems good compared to what other web sites are asking,i like the looks of the engine & was thinking of getting one,i wanted to know what other members thought of this engine,& Williams engine in general.I really prefer a lionel legacy, but they are pricey & a lot of them are larger than 0-36 curves,i only run 0-36. I would appreciate your responses.

That is a nice steamer but your mentioning wanting Legacy prompts me to ask if you want command control in the future?
Reason is that adding TMCC w/sound & cruise is a roughly $200 add-on with you doing the installation. Adding DCS is similar. Now you have a $500 steamer that will easily negotiate your curves. The smoke output is poor however.
Another option to consider is to pick up an older TMCC Lionel scale Hudson (many will run on your track just fine) or the Lionmaster Hudson with Odyssey, RS4, good smoke, and command for considerable less than $500.
I have one and upgraded it to TMCC/Cruise control with an ERR kit. I also added the Railsounds kit to it. I love it. Paid about $265 for the engine, plus a little less than $200 worth of electronics for the TMCC and sound upgrade. I did the TMCC upgrade first and that's worth it for the cruise control. Sound is just an extra plus.

It ran fine as a conventional locomotive, but it's got a postwar style engine gearing so it runs pretty fast with minimal power applied to the track.

Some pictures and videos of mine.

Before TMCC upgrade

After TMCC/Cruise and Sound upgrades. The hardest part of doing the upgrade was fitting both the TMCC and sound boards into the tender. I ended up mounting the speaker in the front of the tender facing up and I drilled some small holes into the coal pile to let the sound through (I did that after I took the video, so it's kind of quiet in the video)

It would cost a little more, but you can find people who will install the electronics for you. Its not a bad engine without them either though, just a little more like a postwar engine when running.

The 773 has a shorter tender. I run mine on O-36 with no issues. The "scale hudsons" also have scale tenders so they need a larger curve.

I'm not sure the tender is the issue since Williams O-27 Hudsons and Berks come with the same scale/2426W tender.

For the scale hudson, that's not a scale tender. It's too small. Only the Williams 773's come with the 2426 (that's what the Lionel 773 had), the ones labeled as "Scale Hudsons" have a slightly bigger tender.
OK, now I'm confused.

I have a Williams O27 Hudson, and its tender sure looks like a 2426. It's much bigger than the smaller tenders that go pre- and post-war engines like the 6466 and 6066W. It's also, obviously, not the knock-off of the streamlined 2046 tender. It sure looks to me like the tender that went with the original 726 Berk and is, I've confirmed, what Williams ships with its 726 knock-off.

Based on all that, I concluded it's a 2426 knock-off. If I'm wrong, then I guess my questions are:

1. Which Williams engines use a 2426 knock-off?

2. Does the Williams Scale Hudson come with a tender that's different from all of the other Williams steam engines?

Isn't the infamous TMCC k line scale hudson rated for 0-31or larger c.sam? These are always going for under $500.

The 2426 comes with the smaller engines (berkshires, O-27 hudsons), it also comes with the 773 hudson (the engine is scale). The only difference between the 773 hudson and the scale hudson is the tender. The scale hudson has a full scale tender (which the 2426 is not) that looks similar to the 2426, but is a little bigger. The 773 has the smaller 2426 (same as your O-27 hudson), but the locomotive itself is a scale sized engine.

My 773 pictured above has the smaller 2426 tender. The scale tender would be a little taller and probably a little longer.

Hope that helps, I know it can be a bit confusing.
