Can the ERR sound system be installed in a Williams brass Niagara with the Williams original reverse board ?This locomotive runs great but it has no sound system. I believe the vintage is early 1990's.

Hi
i do t see why not. You need to give the err board + - track power plus mount a reed switch near a tender wheel and glue a small magnet to the wheel to trigger it to provide chuff. I’m sure someone may post pics of the system installed. The original reverse board can stay completely untouched.
No sweat at all, the ERR RS Commander is designed to be used for command or conventional operation. For conventional operation all it needs is the power/ground, speaker, and the chuff switch.
If you're using it in conventional operation, you may want to add a battery to keep the sounds from restarting every time you change direction. Here's a battery option that you never have to change: YLB - RailSounds Battery Replacement (RS-Lite)

Yes, they run well in Conventional, but if you ever put an ERR Cruise Commander in it, it gets even better. I have one; upgraded/weathered it years ago. Nice models; a bit shy on some piping detail, but the real Niagara was not actually encrusted with visible appliances. Some complain about the non-Pittman motors in the Samhongsa Williams brass of the period, but I have found them to be OK.
I do not do the "gee, how long a train can it pull?" thing, however.
