I will attempt to get more information about their plans directly from the good folks at Woodland Scenics on Monday. I do not want to bother them at this time because I am certain they have far more important matters to attend to.
I most recently bought some of their products for my Christmas Layout, I hope that they will be back as a stronger company than they were!
an update from their Facebook page....
Woodland Scenics
Thank you for your support and prayers. We are fortunate to have such caring and loyal customers. Because of our thorough safety procedures and incredible emergency support personnel, we were able to get everyone out safely. Although one of our buildings has been lost we are back at work today assessing what needs to be done and most operations are continuing as usual. Thank you again for your support and encouragement.

Well that is great to hear....glad they are getting back in there, and there folks can keep working.
I would encourage those of you who are on Facebook to post a message on the WS page. I did so on behalf of the OGR staff. Wouldn't hurt to mention this Forum so they will know we're all supporting them.
Dealers recieved this e-mail earlier today:
Dear all,
As you may have heard we have experienced a fire here at Woodland Scenics and there is good news and bad news. The good news is that no one was hurt during the fire or evacuation process. The bad news is that it took out a couple of our manufacturing buildings. However, and fortunately, there is more good news than bad.
We encompass multiple buildings that are spread out all over the town of Linn Creek. We only lost two of those buildings and those two contained just a small portion of our manufacturing facilities. Our shipping department, warehouse and corporate offices were spared any damage, as were most of our manufacturing buildings, so it is business as usual.
Thanks for all your concerns.
Respectfully,

That is better news. Thanks for posting, Wurlitzer!
Wurlitzer:
Thanks for posting. Glad to hear it is business as usual and they are doing OK despite the circumstances.

Foam on, dudes.
Great news for sure! Diversifying operations to a number of locations certainly appears to have paid off in this instance.

Sad news indeed.
Several years ago I saw a house burn down and about all the firemen could do was to hose down the adjacent buildings/houses so they wouldn't flame up also.
We all live in matchboxes and between the paper, chemicals, and wood we all seem to have stored in our homes anyone who survives a fire is lucky.
The Navy used to have Halon Fire Suppression Systems installed in some of their buildings, but I think they stopped using it when they discovered it sucked all the oxygen out as well as putting the fire out. Not good for anyone inside an enclosed space.
Here's hoping Woodland Scenics can get back up and running soon.
Halon was found to be EXTREMELY DESTRUCTIVE to upper atmospheric ozone. Wish i could pipe some of the stuff my postwars put out up there.

That's good news Wurlitzer. As the old saying goes, don't carry all of your eggs in one basket. Definitely paid off here.
I went to the hobby shop and bought out what they had on two items I use regularly just in case.
Good news as it sounds like they have things under control.
It may not be good for people or environment.....but I went through a Halon dump back in my IT days. A sensor had a failure, showed 1000 degrees and the system dumped without a warning. Scary but the oxygen is neutralized and recovers within 20 seconds so you don't notice it really.....I thought the building was coming down and didn't care about air!!!
Anyway hope the best for WS we need you!!

Some of you folks on the East Coast may not truly appreciate that Linn Creek, MO, is a very small collection of buildings between the Lake of the Ozarks and Camdenton, MO. The water supply is from a rural water district which means essentially that there is no water supply for fire fighting. And no pressure for sprinklers. One of the articles mentions that the water supply was quickly exhausted. Which makes fighting a large fire that much more difficult.
This is an example of how a company can locate is a very rural area where the land is cheap, taxes low, etc, but basic services are not the same as in an urban area. You can save on one hand, but can pay the penalty on the other.
I hope that they can quickly recover. Our hobby needs them back.
Hi Dick, what you say above is very true. When you travel through many rural communities it is not uncommon to see most properties with a large man made lake on it, close to the buildings. I was told that this is done so the fire departments can pull their pumpers up to it to get the needed water that the local supply can not handel. I think in some counties they giv a tax deduction to have this lake on your property.
Mario, you are correct. It's called drafting. Every rural fire district and small town departments have pumpers set up to do this. And tankers to haul water. Sometimes the lake isn't close by and they have to draft to a tanker.
It's a whole different world from major urban areas.

This is very sad news I am glad no one is hurt I wish them a speedy recovery and will continue to support them and their great products.

Thankfully no one was injured in the fire and the damage was a lot less than we all assumed based on the news coverage.
We have purchased a lot of their product over the years for our layout and I'm delighted that business will continue as usual. My wife usually heads right for their display area whenever we attend a train show to see what new products they have and to get new ideas for adding scenery to our layout.

Not true, halon seperates the oxygen and nitrogen modules you wont die if your in a room when a halon system goes off the only thing that would happen is your voice will become very deep and that's all. Halon was replaced with fm 200 and the reason is environmental fm 200 is enviro friendly. The place I'm v.p of is a place where we install and maintain computer rooms for fortune 500 and 100 company's and I've been in a room where halon tanks have accidentally discharged other then being very loud, your voice getting deeper and the room goes in lockdown I eventually walked out while the technicians had to unstrap the tanks and take them back to our shop to refill them then put it all back in service once the tanks were in place. Makes for a long night and day for them. So if you see a tank that says halon on the side of it I would bet they are not in compliance all the new equip is fm 200.

I like to give them an order for new structures they made. I wish them a good and fast recovery.
