Way cool! I used to play that instrument, what a beautiful sounding horn! Had first chair in high school as well. Of course, very few knew what that instument was when asked what I played. Is that a Besson or a Yamaha by chance?

It is a Besson - it is not actually my instrument as this is a new one. I play a Besson (pre Sovereign) that was made around 1975 with a matte finish.
Building telescopes and astronomy.

Fix up and drive old cars and trucks, 1952 ford PU, 1925 Dodge Touring, a few older Jags and a 1950 Dodge oil tanker.

Fix up and play with some old tractors, 1930 JD GP, 1954 JD 50, 1954 Oliver super 88, etc.

The set up for the show I did for my in-laws.

I like the fire extinguisher you've got in the for ground. With whats on that plywood it'd be like bailing out the Queen Mary with a soup spoon. Eek

I play jazz trumpet/flugelhorn around the Detroit area, and will be touring Europe with a big band this summer. I currently play lead trumpet with one of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Civic big bands and play 4th trumpet/flugel with my local community big band. I also used to do a lot of church playing, but am focusing on big band/lead and jazz playing right now.
My current trumpet and flugelhorn collection. I also have a couple cornets but don't have any pics of them.

I'm trying to stay active in my sons' lives, and they're now all in their 20's, and they really only show an interest in model trains around Chirstmas time ...

we are very active in the shooting sports, both long gun and handgun. We're lucky to live near two very nice gun clubs/ranges with lots of activities.

and, we still go offroading together on dirt bikes and atv's. We belong to a large club in the Pennsylvania anthracite mining area that has plently of old and fat members like me, so I can lay back a bit while my sons' tear up the mountains. We have a permanent campsite there.

You're a good man, Tex Steve.
I scratchbuild models of British warships from the Napoleonic era in HO (1/87) scale. I am gradually building up a collection of one model of every class of warship in the British navy on January 1, 1805.

This is the largest, the 110 gun Ville de Paris (the French name touts a victory over the French), flagship of the British Channel fleet and largest warship in the British navy at that time. It is about 42 inches long. I turned all the cannon barrels on a small lathe by hand, etc. The only store-bought pieces are the figures - over 400 of them. Each ship I build has some gimmick - this one's is that rear end comes off (sitting next to the ship on the lower left and the af portions of the three main decks pull out like drawers to reveal their interiors - showing that besides being a battleship it was also a floating office building full of clerks and adminstrators (it was the field HQ for a force including 30,000 men).

Model ships are nice, but when done they sit on a shelf. Model trains move and oeprate. I slightly prefer them.

I also like sports cars - but that's more of an addiction than a hobby.
Trains are probably my primary hobby at this time but I also enjoy some painting and am learning photography.
I painted this when our layout was first started and painted our 'real' backdrop from this painting!

We are active in our church in several areas such as food ministry and occasional jail ministry.
Creation Science is probably my secondary interest as well as watching the 'end times scenarios' beginning to play out.
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem....
Outside of Lionel, I collect vintage Tyco slot cars and trucks, Outdoor plastic light up Christmas decorations, and I am an active volunteer firefighter with one of the busiest volunteer fire departments in the United States, (formerly full time with FDNY). I am also active with my fathers Corvette Collection and Club.

Just a few photos...

Steve
I have spent 20 years of my life around and will be coming up on summer #3 working on and operating Chance CP Huntington Trains at the local 500+ acre park on a two mile round trip. I'm always looking at other, studying, and watching operations outside of the one I work on and the other operation not far from my RR that I have had some throttle time on a few times. As mentioned, I've been around the RR I work on for going on 20 years (since I was born) and grew up riding and being around it and have spent, what will be 3 seasons this upcoming season. HERE is a video of my RR from late in the 2010 season.

Outside of the RR...

*Fishing (Haven't done much recently but hope that'll change soon)
*Watching Ice hockey. After a brief absence from the sport, I'm getting back into it.
*Cars
*We have 3 fish ponds in our yard - they take a great deal of knowledge and work.

Have you built the HMS Polychrest yet?
