Is your engine equipped with ProtoSound 2 or 3? If not, DCS will not be able to add. Also ensure the TIU is properly wired to the tracks - red to center rail, black to outer rail. Reversing these wires will prevent the engine from receiving what is referred to as the DCS "watchdog" signal. Check also that the tracks are receiving power - about 18 volts will do.

Please advise regarding the following:

  • Exactly what engine are you trying to add to DCS?
  • Exactly what you are doing to add it and exactly what happens when you attempt to add it?
  • What is your setup, i.e., transformer, TIU model, level of DCS software in the TIU and the remote?
  • Have you ever added engines to do DCS previously?

Why are you trying to add the engine again if it's already in the remote? If it's already in the remote, press ENG, scroll to it in the engine list and press the thumbwheel. Then press startup. If it's not in the remote, continue below.

Check to ensure that, if the engine has the following switches, they are set as indicated:

  • 2 Rail/3-Rail switch should be set to 3 Rail
  • DCC/DCS switch should be set to DCS.
Thank you Barry you just made a little kid and a really big kid very happy.   I looked under the engine and it was switched to the DCC Mode I switched it added did a factory reset to make sure it was right since somehow I manged to disable the head light. After that she purrs like s kittin. Thanks for saving me many hours of grief and to my brother Phil for directing me to your forum and you for help.  He said you are the best at DCS and he was right.
