I just received this MTH RailKing ALCo RS-1 in the NYS&W (Susquehanna) Bicentennial paint scheme…a custom run from Forum sponsor @E-Z Catch Train Shop

Thank you, Pat, for doing this unique and colorful locomotive!  I know you logged a lot of hours researching the prototype and making sure MTH got it right!

Gotta love the ALCo sounds and smoke!

Thank you for your business brother

Recent finds at a LHS.  First is an RMT IGA Foods 36ft Wood Side Reefer Car.  This is my first RMT piece of rolling stock and I'm impressed with the level of detail for the price.  I really like the IGA paint job as my father ran a grocery store when I was growing up and he bought wholesale from an IGA distributer.

Next is a used RailKing Rugged Rails Chicago NorthWestern Tank Car.  I couldn't resist the price on this one.

Last but not least is a NOS Lionel REA Waffle-Sided Boxcar, another addition to my collection of waffle-sided cars, I just have a thing for these.

I have one of those supposedly done by Crown Model Products. The backround to the "GOOD FOOD" area is white and the car is #16803.

@mike g., when I get around to it I'll surely post my progress.

@Strap Hanger, a subway would be nice, the "D" train or a Number 4, but the limited size of my potential city and the cost of MTH subway sets precludes me from going that route.  I will have inter-city passenger trains and freights running underneath.  I do have a 161st Street Yankee Stadium subway entrance that will be on the layout if the city gets built.

@PRRMP54, definitely unique!

@31charlie, I have that same IGA reefer and the A&P one that RMT produced at the same time.

I am sure three will show up for half the price now lol. This is a Thomas Bedell bronze cast electric. He made this prior to WWII and then after it was revived by Baldwin model locoworks. It is a monster next to my Icken boxcab! Definitely one of those locos that will pull what ever you tie to the back of it!!

I'm always amazed at your finds Dennis. Why go to the Smithsonian when we Have Dennis!

Nothing as exciting as some of the recent posts but any train purchase is still a good train purchase.

Picked up some stuff from Trainz.

Some figures for current and future projects

And a couple freight cars, a MPC NYC Transfer caboose, and a Williams 3- dome tanker in PRR livery.

I've noticed that my freight fleet is box car heavy. Working on fixing that. 😁😁

Good finds Bob. I always look for other things when I buy to get the better shipping price. You can't beat their prices most of the time.

Lionel's handsome A Class N&W 1218 steamer was a milestone when introduced for the 100th Anniversary catalog in 2000 where Lionel produced 3, count 'em THREE new big steam locomotives - all new tooling, a first I believe. The PRR T1 duplex, the B&O EM1, and the mighty N&W No 1218 articulated. All great steamers in their own rights.

I picked up a used A class some years ago when we had our mountain layout in our garage. Looking back, as nice as the big fellow was, smoke was weak, the whistle was terrific but with only 2 chuffs and the fact that the sound would drop out intermittently, was a disappointment. No cruise made slow running erratic at best.  I eventually sold it for something else I wanted with no regrets.

A few years later I bought a 2nd one from here on the Forum that had GRJ's superchuffer and ERR cruise installed at a good price. Much improved. Some time passed and I needed funds for another 'want' so I sold it also at a good price and shortly afterwards, the Vision model was announced at about twice what I let this one go for.  Have always regretted selling again but never came across anything that was affordable until last week.

Now I have a MTH Premiere A class (from 2006 perhaps?) with 3v PS2 and 'improved detail' from the earlier PS1 model. It just cane this afternoon and it may be a few weeks before I have the opportunity to run it on a layout but looking forward to an adjustable chuff rate, strong smoke, and DCS cruise control. These have a 'genuine' Pittman motor as well.

Any idea what the improved details are compared to the PS1 model?

A truly magnificat beast. My favorite articulated steamer of all. Hunkered down on the rails ready to haul anything!  Planning to assemble a mixed passenger excursion consist if possible - sort of hodge poge and rag tag...

The Dreyfuss is a PS3 MTH Hudson and is a very nice piece from 2016-2018 or thereabouts.

Always good to be adding employees and increasing the population.

An ERTL Snap-On tools 1/43 bank and a Lionel NLOE Northrup-Grumman T/T.  I've got a Weaver Snap-On tools set headed up by an FA so this truck will look good on the layout when that set is running.  The Lionel and the NLOE have produced a number of Long Island themed TOFCs among them a NY Islanders T/T, A Grumman F14 T/T and this Northrup Grumman T/T.  I have the Islanders and the Tomcat and thought I had this one but I guess I never pulled the trigger.  Prices of the TOFC are out of my range so when I saw the T/T for separate sale on eBay I pulled the trigger figuring I had some flats I could use.  After I bought the T/T I came across a Long Island flat car sans trailer.  The box label says NLOE 99 on it.  Not sure if it's the correct flat but for a combined $45 before tax and shipping the Long Island fleet just got bigger.  I'll post the flat car once it arrives.

to go along with my Empire State Building.

So last week I posted these purchases and said a LIRR flatcar with the TOFC fifth wheel and wheel chocks was on the way.  Well here it is with the Northrup-Grumman trailer sitting on it.

IMG_4094IMG_4095

So from the date on the nose of the trailer this is the correct flatcar for this custom run TOFC set.  $45 is much better than the $100+ prices I've seen them going for on eBay.  It does need a new brake wheel.  I knew from the auction pictures the brake wheel was missing, but it was in the box.  Apparently the shaft broke off in the brake wheel stand.  Like I said every train I own needs to be on the workbench.

Another addition of the vehicular type.  For $5.99 I couldn't pass it up even without a tractor.

Went to a local train show in Springfield OH last Sunday. Purchased the following:

Lionel 138 Operating water Tower. - It works too. It was dirty from being on a layout for years but it cleaned up nicely.
DSCN0237
Next I picked up a Lionel Rico Station in pieces. This too is dirty but will clean up just fine.
DSCN0241
I got a New in the Box Walthers O/027 Steel Water tower still wrapped in the plastic.
DSCN0239
I got a Lionel Smoking UP Caboose that was in the wrong box. The box says CP. This too was very dirty washed up just fine. The Sleuthe Smoke unit works too. I still have to clean up the trucks and reset the coupler arm spring, but I'm looking forward to running this on my layout. This unit has what looks to be a regulator board for the smoke unit. Also, Anyone know if the trucks come apart? It looks like the side frames are staked.
DSCN0242DSCN0243
Lastly I picked up an operating Milk car w/ platform. The wiring under the car needs replaced, but I was told it works. Just need to get some milk cans. The pick-up shoes are in great shape! Looks like it had very little run time. Dated 4-55.
