Temperamental? Finicky? Stunning? Absolutely. Worth the time and trouble? Almost definitely not, but you are never letting her go.

Mine? The Lionel VisionLine Pennsylvania CC2s 0-8-8-0 from 2009. From opening up the box and needing tools to get it off the shipping boards to the fragile, irreplaceable electronics, to the "let's throw everything into boiler, what could go wrong?" attitude of the original VisionLine offering, this engine is a beautiful nightmare. I've spent more repairing this engine than any other I own. It's (literally) spent more time in a UPS van than on my layout.

But just look at her. She can do no wrong. This will always be the bar that Vision locomotives have for me as far as features. Now let me put her back on a shelf before she throws a tantrum and costs me another mortgage payment in repairs!

Big thanks to @Alex M for all his work getting her up and running again. You are an artist and a gentleman.

My Ferrari of my train collection is my 1st run GGD El Capitan set.  Beautiful, but the couplers are devil spawn and it always a bit of work to get the whole 12 car train running well at first after a while in the box.  My second run set is in Amtrak, and it never has those issues.

However, when the train runs well, it is awesome!

Well here is mine.  The background story is as follows.  In the 1990's while I was traveling in the UK (Yes I know its fantastic) and rummaging  through an antique store on a low shelf I discovered a NYC F-3 2444C  B unit, in near perfect shape.  The store had no other US trains (had some European ones) and the proprietor didn't know anything about it except that it came to him in a lot of miscellaneous trains from an elderly gentleman.  Knowing that the B unit is much harder to find than the AA's I took it home intending to get the AA.  Well, I just could not connect with a satisfactory AA, at the time those reviewed were either not in good enough condition or too expensive, so I packed it up for "another day".  15+ YEARS go by and when I am packing my trains for our move from Maryland to Texas (2007) lo and behold out of a storage box comes the 2444C just as good as when I packed it away, so off it goes to Texas.   In 2021 while at a train show in Plano, Texas I encounter a vendor with a NYC AA unit at an excellent price and in great condition.  So I buy it and finally after likely 20 years I have an ABA NYC F-3!!!  Sorry, it may not be beautiful to you but to me it is the visual confirmation of a successful quest that lasted for many years.
