First off, I’m not a nut job. I’m retired network computer engineer that is disable with a lot of time in my hands day (0r night). I would like to offer to the owners of Olsons toy store web site to have off-site (mirror) server that would update in the middle of the night. I would setup a dedicated server with mirror hard drives for starters. Then back it up off-line as a triple precaution. In my last job, I dealt with Novell, Windows Server, SCO UNIX, Solaris UNIX, Linux, and of course windows workstation. On our Novell server, we ran a triple disk array and I loved it. If you ever have a chance to work with a disk array and have a drive fail. It’s so cool how it handles itself. It start to automatically moving the data to the remaining hard drives and then it mark that one failed. While still up and running, you pull the bad disk out and insert the new drive. Then it recognizes the replacement, checks and start moving data back on it. It was a lot of fun watching it handle itself so seemlessly.
Anway you can tell I enjoyed my job and hate giving it up. So, if I can be of any help to the Olsons with there problem and future improvements, please tell them to call or email me. Btw, the guy that replaced me was happy to meet me because he said when he started there he said that it was the first job he had nothing to do. All improvements were In place and all the servers and network equipment were all in perfect running condition. He was so impress that I had pre-plan the new server room before I left and they build it to my specs during the last addition. He was very happy with everything that was installed that he had no input on what was needed. It made me feel good after I left visiting. I had not been by there since a year from my 6 or 7th back and neck surgeries. Sorry, I didn’t mean to go off track so much because I love my trains including my father’s old trains. I’m trying to keep them running. The front end of my fathers 2018 was broken off as for the attempted wiring repair that he did somewhat work. The other engine is a 1688 “J” Torpedo and I think it was pre- Eswitch because it never had one. If someone could clue me in, I would appreciate it a lot. The E-switch on the 2018 still works to this day. I need to redo the wiring with smaller gauge wiring. It’s got 14 gauge running thru it now. Anyway, I’m also trying to find a “Drawbar” for it also. Luckily I printed out all the schematics for all my trains and cars so I’m ok for now. I’m truly sorry for what happen to the Olsons. If they would fly me out to we’re they are, I could build them a server like no other. I learned a lot in my old job and enjoyed the **** of it. I had a friend stop by while I was rebuilding a server and he bought beer. Have you ever built a server drunk? It was no fun and my last time I did that. Lol
y’all have a great holiday and enjoy your trains!
