This O scale building was built from photos. This is based on an In n Out Burger in Pasadena, CA.
We did go with the more modern roof from other sites. The other difference is the storage building had a 2nd floor added.

John,
I thought that might get a chuckle.

Very nice.
I love in-n-out! Great project and thanks for sharing!
Love it. Very cool!
When we did an extended family trip out West years ago my kids (young teens at the time) all clamored to go there. Grand Canyon? Forget about it -- all about In and Out Burger.
EXCELLENT JOB!
I wish I was there now! Yum!
Stu - Great job! You nailed it.

Great build. Just one minor mistake -- you're about 10 cars short in each line.
In-n-Out is an interesting phenomenon. The original location in Baldwin Park had lines going out onto the street and around the corner. The one Doug refers to that used to be on Second Street in San Bernardino had some lines creating a navigational hazard; the new one has a bigger lot and a better drive through, but it backs up pretty frequently.
They expanded in Dallas (where a lot of refugees from the People's Republic of California relocated) and had big drive-through lines as well. It started a small "burger war" with Whataburger (the closest thing I can find to In-n-Out in Houston).
Very nice work, Stu. I have been an In-N-Out customer since 1955 (when I was 8). I ate my most recent burger at the Lewisville, Texas, location, last Sunday. The buildings have changed but the food is the same.
Your personal record has been awarded ten merits for outstanding imagination and craftsmanship, as well as attention to detail, in creating a scale model of an In-N-Out Burger drive-through restaurant.
Nice job. Have only ever been to one, and that was in Palm Desert about 2 years ago.
Stu,
great work on this!
When I put the figure at the walk up window I realized the window was to low. I have corrected this by raising the window. The tall figure is a scale 6'

Man do I miss In-n-Out, great job, but...... the palm tress are supposed to be crossed. Trivia time, does anybody know why they are crossed?
Stu,
great work on this!
Wow - Great project and finished structure.

Tim,
good point. I didn't plant the trees but will be aware of that when the model is placed on the layout.
Stu
Outstanding job!

While I am one of the few people on earth it seems that doesn't get the attraction to this place, your model is outstanding. Nice work!
Simply outstanding !!!!!

Funny that you mention this place because there was a piece on one of the major networks (I think it was CBS) this morning. I saw the piece while at the gym and they stated that In-N-Out is now being run by the daughter of the original owner and they now have 304 locations.

It's actually the grand-daughter now. Sad story here. The founder's son was killed (in a plane crash as I recall). The founder's his wife and daughter-in-law ran things. That was working VERY WELL as they slowly continued to expand, but as the founder's wife was getting older, the execs suggested franchising the operation (McDonald's supposedly wanted to buy In-n-Out from them). There were ugly accusations from one of the execs. The customers were up in arms over the prospect of franchising or selling and the company remained with the family (much to the delight of the customers and the employees).
The expansion into the Dallas area threw a lot of people for a loop. They opened a meat processing center in Fort Worth as In-n-Out is very strict about travel time for ingredients -- no more than 8 hours' drive as I recall. The only things frozen at In-n-Out are the ice in the drink stations and the ice cream for shakes. One of the reasons you have a long line of cars at the drive through.
I know where I'm stopping after work.

First, very nice model!
I'm not a veteran of these, but I experienced the line phenomena a few years back when I made the lunch run for a group in our office. I'm pretty sure I was at the one in Sunnyvale, CA on El Camino Real. There was a guy with an iPad like device working the line of cars before you got anywhere near a window.
I am sure I liked the burger, but not being a native Californian, I wasn't sure it was worth the trouble of the long line. (I know, sacrilege! )
I was also doing my darnedest to make sure I had all the right "secret words" for some of the burgers my native Californian co-workers ordered. I was scared the In n Out staff was going to look at me like I had 2 heads with some of the odd code names used that were not listed on the menu. (Especially since I had to place my order with the iPad guy before being anywhere near the building's normal order station where I could have seen the actual menu!)
I seem to recall the lot was really full as well, going inside might not have even been an option.

Excellent!!!

When I tell people about In-n-Out lines, they think I'm kidding. Here's one of the first ones they opened in Texas. I've been to that one -- it's great.
Here's a link to the Article in the UK Daily Mail. "Tears and a two-mile-long line..."
Great model.
Nice places to eat, simple old fashion menu, burgers are very good. Never cared for their fries though. They are fresh, you can watch them being cut, just not my preference.
Steve
Stu,
Great job.

whenever we visit my Wife's sister in Orange, we hit there straight from the airport. and every time I have my In-N-Out shirt on I always get great comments.
Nice model Stu.
But I gotta tell ya . . . my mates here in Oz fell about laughing at the name.
It has a very different connotation over here.
Cheers
In and Out burger? Maybe it needed to be cooked a little longer...
Jerry
Holy smokes! That is awesome. As a matter of fact it's so good I'm salivating right now for a double double!!! I was in San Fran the last two weeks and had to stop in and get my fix. There are some great burgers here in Chicago, but I still put In and Out as the best.
Maybe one of your cars should have one of those bumper stickers people made from the normal "IN AND OUT BURGER" bumper sticker, shortening it to "IN AND OUT URGE"! No lie!
By the way, for those of us who eat healthy, you can ask them to double all the veggies (at no additional cost.) That makes it more like having a salad and a burger - obviously very healthy....
Nice module of the building with great detail and beautiful color really accents the In and OUT burger scene!
Alan
Very very nice model!
thank you for sharing!
Andre.
Dude, I want it! Awesome job!

I think In n Out bought the Rock and Roll McDonalds. Now Chicago will have the best burgers! I can't wait, if it's true, that is.
Fabulous work Stu! Thank you for sharing.
Beautiful model, but I don't care for the food. Bates Hamburgers in Livonia, MI is the place to go with an honorable mention going to Gordon's Stoplight Grill in Crystal City, MO.

Better check out Ed Debevicks in Chi-town. They have great burgers served with a side of attitude!!!
