I am trying to centralize my light control through a single AMC2.  I am fully aware of the warnings to ONLY use the AMC2 on incandescent lights.  I'm not sure the specifics of why this limitation exists but I accept that up front.

Amoung the items I am trying to drive from the AMC2 from the light control is the Lionel 6-83490 Lighted Coaling Tower.  I recently connected it to the AMC2 and initially got lights to work (very shortly).  Then I encountered a short inside the Coaling Tower that forced me to disconnect it from the AMC2.  I believe the majority of the lights on the tower are incandescent but there is a circuit board that drives the blinking red light on top.

I'm trying to understand if the AMC2 limitations are the root cause behind the short OR if this was simply a coincidence.  Does anyone have any insight on the AMC2 limitations to better under what I have encountered?

The reason for the Incandescent light limitation is because they are offering dimming.  Connecting an LED should not damage the box, but you probably won't get the dimming operation you expect.  Depending on what components they use for the lighting control, the LED's might not even light.  However, I really doubt that the LED would damage anything, and certainly not cause a short.

Thx John!  To sum up, the limitation of the AMC2 is the quality of dimming one would see with LEDs vs something catastrophic using AMC2 with LED/PCB.  I thought as much but I wanted to check to see if I was missing something.

To reiterate, the short developed in the accessory, NOT the AMC2.
