Old friend of mine passed away last week.  He had a huge post war collection which has since gone to auction.  Problem is  most of the track is left with the switches(50's vintage O gauge), some cars, some diesels, Lots of train books(big time Pennys fan), tones of magazines and catalogs, like TCA quarterlies, OGR all the way back to issue one, train shelves, the train table itself.  In the pics I'm going to post is any of it worth anything?  Also if you want the train shelves or the table itself and live near Western Mass you can come up and take it for you're self.  Over the next couple of weeks I'll be going over to dismantle whats left.  Take what I want and if no one wants the shelf or table it will be thrown in the dumpster.  Sad to see a 50 year collection gone in a day but his wishes were for his wife to get the money from the auction.

Over the next month or how ever it takes me I'll do a complete catalog of books and magazines and list them here, May sell some of on the buy sell board on the wifes behalf. but your input on some of this stuff will be helpful.

Hi Gary, tearing out a once pride and joy, especially that of an old friend can be a very tough thing to do.

I hope someone can use the track and switches, but as for the magazines have you thought of a train museum or maybe a retirenment home as a place that can use them.

A museum, or a train club that dose an open house can sell the mags for a buck each to their visitors. At lest they will be put to good use and bring some fun into peoples lives.

Are the shelves groverd for wheel sets? I find it hard to believe that there are no takers for them.

Oh well, good luck and keep us posted on how things go.

Gary, compelled to add my voice to the condolences.  That looks like it was a fantastic (50's style?) train room.  Don't suppose you have any pictures to post of what it was like in happier times..?  Reason I ask is, this reminds me of the passing years ago of a local gentleman, with a fabulous postwar collection and layout (and I mean '50's layout, double-decker, over a hundred switches, 8 ZW's - awesome).  "Al" died many years ago and his considerable effort and love for the hobby seems lost to time, a real pity in my opinion.  Again, best wishes to you and his family.
