I do the opposite and make up trains with Lionel Post War engines pulling the modern remakes of post war cars. Trucks run better, and I get the old color schemes at less then half the price of their post war counter parts, especially the 6464 boxcars.

I usually use older engines with the modern versions of cars, or else completely old school.
