The latest release of ES44ACs from Lionel comes with Kadee mounting pads. Unfortunately removing the front claw coupler is still a challenge because the thumbtack (I bought a non powered version) doesn't fit between the plow and pilot. I haven't done the rear pilot yet but expect it to be much easier. Eventually I'll fix the pilots and do full length handrails, but with the kinematic pilot design on these they still look pretty good out of the box. 20200318_00164820200318_00165920200318_00163620200318_001514

I saw the pilot design at work at Jim Z's house. I prefer 2 rail stuff. I have to say I was impressed at how well the pilot looked. It appeared to stay straight until needed to move on tighter curves. I think it is a big improvement to the typical 3 rail stuff.

I didn't touch his engine so I really don't know exactly how it's designed. I just saw it on his layout a few years back and I'm going from memory.

I think the biggest objection I had to going 3 rail was how the modern diesels looked on curves. I just hate that swinging pilot. It always appeared like something was wrong to me. Again, this is a big improvement IMO.

My 2 cents anyways.
