Here's another... a friend uses this to lift a camper shell so it should lift a layout.

The Racor system is what I used. I priced out parting together a pulley system and it was close in price so I went with the racor.

All great for one big limitation. You must be directly under the gearbox when raising or lowering. I tried to made a wobble extension to no avail. This will be a problem if you have a larger layout unless you bolt up two 2x4's to transpose the mounting from your ceiling joists.

I ditched the tray it came with and used two 2x2's with eye hooks to cover my layouts 5' width. I was a little concerned about the 3-4' of overhang on either long side but it's been fine. If there is a balance issue going forward I'll just add some weight.

The bench work is 5x11. I have a table in the garage move from the corner as main support with some fold up legs I crafted for stability. I go 6-5 240lbs and it supported me fine when crawling around on it for 15 minutes!

The hole for vertical gearbox access can be seen in the last pict middle left of the safety chain I made from swing set chain. I actually had it up for two week before put the safety chain up (my w/e cruiser was at the shop).

As a final note the systems placement is critical. I wanted my to be in a specific spot. Measuring it all out probably took more time than installing it.
