Anybody done this successfully?

I'm working on a project and the 2 posts on the ends (where the underframe screws go in) are easily seen.  I guess I could glue the underframe in place, but that would be my last resort.

Any ideas on how to hide the 4 posts or do away with them in place of something else?

Bob:  I guess I don't understand just what you are referring to.   What are the mounting posts for?  What make of car is it you're talking about?  You say boxcar and usually no one is interested in the inside ends of a boxcar because their so hard to see, but I can't think of where any other mounting posts are located.

I'll take a crack at your question if I understand what you're trying to do.

Bob:  Now that you show the photo of what you want to do, I can see your problem.  That sure is an odd car in the shot;  probably done for some specific commodity by the RR itself.

I'm not sure just what you can do with those cast in posts, if you want to have those doors open.  And, actually I'm not sure that the door openings would be correct anyway;  The standard door, as on the ACL car, is centered in the side of the car.  On this unusual example, the actual center of the door looks to be to the right of both doors.  I thnk that you might have a bigger project there than you realize, actually cutting out some of the car sides and moving them to new locations.  And then there remains the problem of mounting the body to the floor.  I think that I would start with a regular 4-door automobile boxcar and see if the doors could be moved to one end.

Be interesting to see what and how you actually do the project.  Sorry I can't be of more help.

Paul,

Already done the hard work (I hope to have an article submitted for publishing soon)

About the only thing I've come up with is this, once I've got the car finished (got the decals drying now), I can remove the underframe/flooring, cut out all 4 of the posts, and glue the underframe/flooring in place.  I see no need to ever have to take the car apart again, so gluing it in may just work.

I was trying to think of a way to hide the posts, I may try something temporarily to see how it looks before I commit to cutting them out.
