hi I guess this belongs here. I have a question regarding Lionel fast track and math real trax. Is ther a way to have two loops with a couple crossover switches. And have both loop be isolated from each other? I know with the old tubular track and O22 switched I could just put isolation pins in all 3 rails. I was wondering if I could do something along those lines with this new stuff. please let me know. Thanks!

First off MTH and Lionel track don't mate. But if you can find them both MTH and Lionel made conversion pieces when they first came out to mate to O Gauge track so with them you could mate them together and put a isolation pin in the O gauge track. now Menards does make the conversion to fastrack you still would have to find the MTH to O gauge track.

You would need to isolate the center pin and  isolate the rails with the non derailing feature.  Then you would need to phase your transformers on each loop so when you cross to the other loop you wouldn't get a short.

Ok does Lionel or MTH make insulting pin for this new stuff if not how would I go about doing my own. Also what do you mean by phase? I'm sorry for the questions. I'm just used to tubular and making the transition to the new stuff. Right now I like Lionel's stuff it seems easier to work with

FastTrack can use the 1 3/8" (Full, half-roadbed or no-roadbed) or the 5" 6-12060 with the center wire pulled.

MTH RealTrax has a 5" 40-1029 or good electrical tape, like 3M Professional over the center rail connector tabs will isolate between the outs of connected switches.

Mating the two systems without cutting track would require a 10" section made of two 5" transition pieces with the O tubular pin sides connecting.

MTH 40-1011 and Lionel 6-12040

I hope that helps.

AVR,

Like Carl just said, Fastback does not use insulating pins like the old tubular track.

Instead they have a very short straight section that has a built-in split in the center rail for insulation. There is a jumper wire on the underside that is removed to insulate the center rail. With the jumper in place it is just a regular short track section. Just insert this piece (with jumper removed) where you want the  track insulated. I believe they also sell a piece with all three rails split.
