If you retrieve it right as the dry cycle finishes it should be steaming. Might want to use an oven mitt to protect your hands from the steam.
Hey fellas,
I've got an odd question. I had a loop of fastrack around the Christmas tree a few weeks ago. We've got several cats and one them managed to barf all over the track so it's really nasty right now. I'm wondering if anyone has every put Lionel fastrack through the dishwasher? It seems it would be a great way to get the cat barf out of all the nooks and crannies but I'm just not sure if the dishwasher will ruin the track or not. Anyone ever try that?
Thanks,
Eric Siegel
I asked the boss, and after she calmed down from hysterical laughing, said have your wife pick out the new dishwasher now, then install it so you take the old one to your work room and experiment there.

Sounds exactly like what my wife would say. Cat puke, dog puke, or just puke in general, will not go in her dishwasher while she is still breathing. Now if I get her a new one, I can have the old one for my experiments.
Eric, just toss the track or clean it by hand assuming she lets you use the sink...

Nah, for that you have to put it in a mussels steamer - after about ten minutes of that put it on the track and it will open up like you have never seen!
Eric said one cat "managed to barf all over the track". Sounds like a lot more than the $5 worth some are criticizing his question for.
Antifreez in a crock pot was a great way to clean my control line engines. #justsayin
If it's a lot of track, I would still clean it manually with soap and water, and a old toothbrush, then I would also take the track apart as I stated in my earlier post and make sure I got all the water out from everywhere and then re-assemble.
Cat puke is very corrosive to everything and Fastrack will rust, so unless you want joints that may fail because of corrosion residue or rust near the pins or inside the rail, a full cleaning and drying inside and out is required.
I'm sure by now Eric has done something or already resolved it by now. I can't imagine he's waiting by his computer while we all debate and make jokes about this.
Eric, what did you end up doing and how did it come out?
Let the barf dry out.
Brush it off outside.
Spray the track with Hydrogen Peroxide or 99% rubbing alcohol.
Rub it off with a washcloth.

(Preferred method) or use duct tape (economical).
Attach firmly to car hood, roof and trunk of car. ( depending on amount)
Avoid attaching to Landau and convertible roofs.
Drive through or got to self-device car wash.
Clean thoughly. Avoid wax.
Aid dry at approx 40Mph. Faster speeds may reduce dry time but may result in reduction of original amount of track.
Avoid laughing and play dumb if pulled over by police.
Say you kids must of done it as a joke.
