Here is my current iteration of my yard area. Still need to clean it up a little. The concept is a small town yard where blocks of cars are dropped off from through freights (out of a staging yard), then classified into locals for delivery to businesses scattered around the layout. The cars are then picked up at these businesses and returned to the yard and put into blocks to be picked up by through freights that go back into staging.
The yard is in an area defined by the walls and the stairwell (the next time I build a house the stairwell will be parallel to a wall, not in the room). The rest of the layout is accessed from the tracks at the top right.
Things are kind of tight and I'm laying out the track on the floor to make sure it works. The run-around track and ARR/DEP track have min O-72 and #4 switches for larger engines. One O-72 min track leads to engine storage. The turntable is 28".
