I have a like new Hudson 6-11209 with the dreaded flashing cab lights.  I bought this barely used at York a few years back and have seen the research on these smoke motor failures.  I can fix anything but am really reluctant to take this baby apart.  Who do I trust to repair this quickly and will do a real good job and not mess up my number one locomotive?  It appears to be the main front smoke unit because when I lock it out the lights do not flash.

Thank you!

Actually a lot of times the units are fine and the failures have been over exaggerated.  If you don't run your engines all the time and smoke unit does not get used, the fluid can sort of gum up the unit.  If the fan gets stuck you will get the flashing lights.

This happened to me before and all I did was add some fluid to the unit (15 drops or so) and let it sit overnight and next day worked fine.  Also, you can buy JT Megasteams Smoke Fluid Eliminator and let it sit overnight.

These motors don't have a lot of torque to start the motor and even a little gumming up will stop them and give the flashes.  Too many motors have been replaced unnecessarily.

Yours may indeed have an issue but I would try that first.  Blowing some compressed air down stack may also free it up.
