Hello All You Nice People

I purchased a Lionel Fastrack #6-12050 22-1/2 Degree Crossover and noticed underneath theirs red wires connected to the track pieces , can anyone please explain to me and others who might have the same question as to what them red (hot) wires are for or what the purpose is for them being ???

Thank You for any help clearing up my concern.  I should have asked before I already installed it on my layout.

If you look at the crossover center rail you will see that it is not continuous through the section.  As you approach from any direction the center rail starts, stops, starts, stops and then starts again.  The red jumpers below the road bed allow the power to hop across the breaks in the rail above the road bed.
