My lionel legacy engine sounds start up when I turn on the transformer even before I give it the command to turn on with my hand-held controller. In addition I can not give it any commands with my controller. I disconnected the legacy from the track and the sounds go on but I can not run it manually with the transformer. My other legacy trains run just fine with the hand held controller.
I tried to re-program the engine, but since the engine sounds start up as soon as I turn on the transformer, the programming operation does not work.
To complicate things even further, when I took my engine and tender to my Lionel dealer, he initially had a problem, but then it ran well, and he reprogrammed it. He also checked my Legacy unit and controller, and they worked fine. When I brought it home to my track it malfunctioned again (with the engine sounds starting up and not responding to the commands of the controller).
My train worked perfectly prior to this. The only other possible contributing factor was that I had my smoke unit repaired one week prior to the onset of this problem.
I do not know what to do next.
