Hi

Need some guidance on a repair. I have Lionel Polar Express Berkshire 6-28649 with the Smoke Lever one side attached to the Smoke Unit Piston and the other side flopping around and attached to nothing.  Should the flopping side be attached to the ECCENTRIC ROD ASSEMBLY (Lionel part #6208616323 and 6208616311)or something else?

You didn't explain your issue of why you're looking inside the engine. One can only assume the smoke is not working correctly. On mine it was producing smoke however it was only wisping out of the stack instead of puffing as it originally did. I found that the problem part was the PUSH ROD / SMOKE / BERK JR part# 6208616029. It had actually started to wear down part of the rod so it was barley pushing on the lever anymore. Replacing that part corrected the issue in my case.
