Found this post war Lionel Pa. electric engine in an attic. See photos. It is missing the two roof pantographs. Looks like it was re-painted.   4530 appears on the side but I can’t find this # in Greenberg’s Lionel identification  guide book.  Not even sure what the original color is. Looks green now.

Does anyone know from  looking at the photos what number engine this is, what the original color it was and year made?

Can anyone recommend someone who does excellent restorations, both mechanical to get it working and re-painting?

Also would like any advice if this is worth restoring and what this electric engine is worth.

Unless this piece has some special meaning to you I am afraid I do not see the point.  It is one motor and would barely pull itself around the track, with Madison cars forget it.  For about a third of what I expect the restoration cost to be you can pick up a two motor unit with traction tires.

Not everything should be saved.

This is a tough decision we all face at some point. I would put it like this: If you do not have the skills to do the restoration and have to pay someone to do it, recognize that not all pieces are worth the cost of the restore. If you are not emotionaly attached to the train it may be smarter to sell it for whatever you can get for it and buy one that is original or already restored. Your GG1 falls into that category.

There are many similar GG1s available today - Williams, K-Line, MTH as well as older Lionels. You can probably pick one up for as low as $100 that will be much better.

What C.Sam said.

The ones with can motors and traction tires will run better and pull more cars than this old beater ever did.
