Although there appears to be a glut of container cars, in general, by each manufacturer, a set like this that allowed for all the different sized containers with inserts or internal adjustments if necessary would be desirable.

However, if the trend continues, as it has this will be another incongruous set that fits a specific manufacturers' container sizes and no one else's.

That would not be desirable!

WHAT GLUT? Confused

Maybe in the 027 world Roll Eyes but for the Scale guys not much! I can't find too many of the MTH Premier ones out there.
The Atlas O Gunderson cars are slowly and surely going...going...going... GONE!

The scale K-line 40' cars are tough to find[ that's the scale THRALL cars NOT the incorrect Gunderson cars[ sans TTX markings since TTX has cut down thier 48' to 40']

too bad the manufacturers don't just make everything "scale". It would then be no question that all would fit no matter whose cars you were using. I'll keep dreaming...

AGREED! These Proprietary games played are pathetic!

Keep up the good fight boys....I give up.

I have sent emails, made phone calls, Facebook messages, started long forum posts regarding intermodal, for the better part of the last 5-6 years, with no success.

7-UP Hoppers and M&M boxcars???.... no problem. Modern intermodal cars seen on the real railroads EVERYDAY....FORGET ABOUT IT.

Frank, I pass the torch to you.
Good Day Matt,

Yes, the Gunderson Maxi Stack IV 3-Car Articulated Well Car is configured with 3x53’ cars.
These cars can accommodate 20’, 40’, 53’ and 57’ containers. I’d really like to see these produced.

How about a "How To" on that conversion. I've avoided the husky stacks because I wasn't really interested in single units. Would still love to see a 3x53.
I'd buy a bunch of these too. And thanks Frank for keeping the need for these and other kinds of intermodal cars in view.

I bought my last stand alone well car several years ago. I just am not going to buy them any more. Period. It is a less common prototype. As it is, I have five set aside to go to Jeff or Maxi III conversion (i.e., into a five-car articulated set) when he can work the project in. (The same is true for spine cars -- I'm not buying unprototypical two car sets in fantasy paint).

I see MTH will initiate some kind of program to formalize customer input. It's not clear if that's simply picking roadnames for existing models or whether its a place to urge new ones. If the latter, intermodal modellers need to make their voices heard.

An O Scale Gunderson MAXI-STACK III and IV 3-UNIT articulated well car for containers and trailers are what is missing.

Specifically needed for the intermodal trains on the CN/GTW:

KANSAS CITY SOUTHERN
KCS 9001-9100 Gunderson Maxi-Stack All Purpose Container cars.

100 total
3-Unit - 48' Wells TOFC/COFC

Built 5/96

Thanks.

Problem with that is, at 61, I do not have a few decades left and I also have little interest in anything (other than streamline passenger cars) older than about a rolling decade.

By the time these ever get made (I'm 65)I'll be in a nursing home LOL. I like running new modern freight cars and ES44AC's, AC6000's and the like to show what modern railroading is today. Now if you want M&M cars of which bnsfmike21 pointed out you are in luck. On the other hand maybe the interest is just not out there for the mfgs to make them, could that be the problem? They seem to make and sell enough of the modern rail power like the ES44AC and etc. so why not the freight they were intended to be used for. Sometimes i just don't understand the thinking of the mfgs sometime.

Dave

Just tell me where to mail the check.  I say this every time someone posts up modern intermodal cars, and I mean it.

Sadly, I have come to the conclusion that there are certain things that you have to model in HO if you are serious about it.  At present, modern intermodal is one of those things.  I know there are guys that have done a pretty great job assembling O gauge intermodal - there are some real masterpieces out there.  But, if you just want to buy and run long intermodal freights without the hassle, try HO.  I still have a mix of Atheran and Walthers HO intermodal cars; some are stand-alone and some are articulated.  They all run together  and the containers are all interchangeable.  I also still have a set of spine cars that I used to run in the consist and it all worked great together.  I think I probably had $300 in the cars and the containers, and it made for a nice train.  It was easy, and I had lots of choices.  In truth, this is almost the ONLY thing I miss about HO.
