He's back again! Owen W. helping us to ring in a New Year of photography on the real railroads...
Last year, I had a month by month review of photos taken, and it will take a few posts to get through 2011. If you like the idea, definitely chime in with some of your best of 2011 images. If you prefer just one photo here and there, that is great too.

January is usually the quiet month for tourism by train, but Steamtown offered the Ice Harvest train during Martin Luther King Weekend, and I took this of steam locomotive 3254 hauling 7 cars out of the Scranton yard, passing the DL&W shop complex.

February brought President's Day weekend, and the annual startup of service on the Strasburg Rail Road. 4-8-0 475 was the star that day.

March was a bit quiet for me, but one significant change in the cosmetic restoration of Lackawanna Railroad 565 in Steamtown's Roundhouse was the attaching of the faceplate on the boiler of this 1908 2-6-0.

In April, I journeyed to Monticello, IL to take this special run on the Monticello Railway Museum, which had Southern Ry. 2-8-0 no. 401 under steam.This is a staged runby in the rain.

Late May brought this gem back to life in her original livery for the Central Railroad of New Jersey RS3 no. 1554 was spruced up to operate during the Anthracite Railway Historical Society's convention in early June. This convention also saw the first excursion hauled by their F3s on the DL&W mainline. This was the first trip with the Fs in their Lackawanna Railroad markings.

June brought another railroad convention. the National Railway Historical Society held its annual meeting in Tacoma, WA. One of the steam locomotives found there, at the Mount Rainier Scenic RR was Polson Logging Co. no 70. Another 2-8-2 that was live while we visited, but did not run as part of the convention.

Southern Pacific 4-8-4 4449 crosses the Columbia River to enter Vancouver, WA where I would board the train to arrive in Tacoma.

July's Trainfestival 2011 in Rock Island, IL featured some big steam, too. Nickel Plate Road 2-8-4 765 poses in RI with Chinese built 2-10-2s which now make the Iowa Interstate Railroad home.

The ARHS F3s had a very active season this year, with several trains to Tobyhanna, one to East Stroudsburg, and this one, in August, on her return from Carbondale, PA.

September saw Amtrak return to Scranton to participate in Steamtown's Railfest. This time they brought the 40th Anniversary train. It is seen here getting off display, and backing over the turntable, through the roundhouse and into the locomotive shop in preparation for departure.
Three months of railroading remain. I will post them next.

Late October's leaves are still in full glory on the West Chester railroad, which held a social charter to Glen Mills, PA. The next day would see the only significant snowfall of late 2011 so far.

Delaware Lackawanna C420, all cleaned up and matched with DL&W caboose no. 4810 is getting ready to take Santa and Mrs. Claus to the Scranton Jaycees Santa parade in November.

The year ends in a photo with no trains. A late November snowfall still showed in mid December in this location of the Penobscot yard of the Reading & Northern.

@Rusty...yes using the 1957 built RAm/ DE IV Tee, jointly built between Holland and Switzerland. Sadly the original motive power, even with some winterisation, did not operate well during Canadian winter..reason it was switched to the FP7 seen on the pic.
One of the Northlander consist was shipped back to Europe in the late 90's to be restored.
That could be an interesting model to be done by MTH would appeal to North American and European customers.
