Happy Hump Day!

Here we are in the middle of another week, and ready to celebrate an upcoming weekend by sharing some of our photos of real world trains we have caught.  Summer is in full swing, so lets get rolling.

The past few weeks, I have been posting photos of RailCamp East, class of 2018, whereby I have been a counselor.  On Day three of the camp, there group visited the Wilmington, DE locomotive shops.  This conference room is where they had a safety talk and "Railroading 101."

An Amtrak intern joins us for the day.  This is Susannah.  She works at the Washington, DC office.

Tours of the shop included the chance to see a few HHP8 locomotives in storage.

A group photo at one of the ACS64 units.  A few dents on this model.

We also took a tour of CETC and CNOC, the operations center for Amtrak in Wilmington.  Then we took a ride to Washington.

On the trip to DC, we rode in a few different types of cars.  One monitors the wire, while another monitors the tracks .  Logan holds up a section of wire used to transmit the power to the electric locomotives.

We also had the chance to ride this theater car, with a great view of the rail line.  Each kid got about 6 minutes at the window.

Amtrak crew have such personality.

We had a chance to shoot the locomotives at the Washington station. It was cool to catch the Veterans Unit, no. 642, with no. 611 a few tracks away.

This was supposed to turn out better.  The kids posed outside the station.  We normally have them in this spot and the Capitol in the background.

Our rocket ship out of town is this Acela, which returned us to Wilmington.

That's what I have to offer this week, everyone.  Feel free to add your photos. Enjoy your weekend.

The flood waters are receding just enough to create perfect pools for mosquito habitat.  I knew that would happen.  I avoid low lying areas and haven't gone out at night much.  Still, I do go out.  Below is a D&I train headed north back to Dell Rapids, SD and pulling a long train of empty rock hoppers.  It has just dropped off a string of empty ethanol tankers at the the Hudson POET plant and is slowly making its way through the Hudson elevator complex.  Since the ethanol plant opened ~10 years this elevator no longer loads grain on the train.

I am planning on my major railfan trip of the summer, a foam-a-thon to North Dakota this weekend!
