Someone gifted me a MTH DCS system and told be the only thing wrong was the bottom left button is missing. Is this easy to replace and where can I find one. He told me the button hole still works if you stick something in but I'd rather repair it than take a chance on ruining the remote. I'd really like to get this fixed and hooked up to access some features I've been missing out on.

The read button?
If it is the read button that is missing you're better off having it missing. If you accidentally push it you wont be running trains for a bit

OK, I did get a lot of paper work and a couple books how to use it if it's a unimportant button I will not worry. Maybe it was removed on purpose.
But without it, how can locos be moved from inactive to active list?
All of the buttons are on a single membrane. I'd suggest you contact MTH, or a supertech like GGG, and ask if these are available. If you can open a remote, they're easy to replace.
There was a version of DCS that had a bug.....and if you pressed the "read" button, it caused some havoc.
I don't believe it's that bad anymore with newer versions. I use it a lot now when I move engines to different TIU districts like outside or in the basement. I don't have problems with it.
If you wanted to replace that button (pad) on a remote, you'd have to buy the whole button pad from MTH parts. The only other thing I could think of would be to get lucky, and have an old junk TV remote's button pad fit and install just that area??

i dial up the loco i'm looking for on the inactive list ,press the thumbwheel, and that moves it to the active list........mark me down as another one that could do without a "read" button....
I would check with Marty Fitzhenry he probably has a spare part from one he kept for parts!

ps I can only tell you this if you don't know what your doing taking the remote apart you can damage the transmitter board and then it would be a very expensive fix!!!!!

Jim, for some unexplainable reason, some of my remotes are better than others when it comes to using that method to "activate" locos. Read always gets them all.
Of course, on the other hand, without the combination of a read button and a grandchild, locos would never go inactive.
