Here is a new layout plan, inspired by one of Lionel's display layouts (D-292).
It has three independent routes for train display running (and for when the kids want to run a train), but it also has connections between each loop for a "grand tour" route around the entire layout, using the two return loops for loop-to-loop route.
Each separate route has some variation, with at least one spur.
Three heights 0", 2" and 5" with connectors at 4% grade between.

I like the layout, the access to any place on the layout from any loop and also the idea of independent loops for running trains. The three heights add much to the appearance and beauty of a layout, the grades may be a little steep but I realize the room limitations, I have two loops, with different levels, that can run independently while having access to the other loop if desired, wish I had room for three loops.

I’m just about finished with my Lionel Dealer Display Layout (D-105, 5x9). Wiring now and building a control panel.

Found it as D-292 in my display layout book as a special edition of CTT. It was recently pictured in CTT. I'll post a pic of the D-292 if I can find one, so far no luck.
The D-292 has an outside route that climbs up both sides of the layout to make a small circle at the top, which then goes back down the other side. I thought the two sides climbing made for a tough gradient.
The D-292 is Super-O.

Super O is fun because it's O36 curves and can be adapted to current track. It's not fun because of the length of the straights.
Nice functional adaptation!
I would live with a 5% slope. I kind of like the center circle around the mountain.
