I don't know if anyone heard this but the new Santa Fe F3 is going to have a stainless steel finish in addition to the Legacy upgrades. It was mentioned during the Lionel live catalog presentation. I already have the last RS-5 TMCC ABBA version which I love so I'm gonna pass on this. For those who don't have one yet this looks like it could be pretty cool. I didn't look at the prices but I can't imagine what your in for, for an ABBA consist.

Sounds great!! Though any F3 is great! But it will certainly be too much for my budget! I hope someone on the Forum gets one and will post some photos! When will it deliver, Christmas 2018? He, he!
How abou the various BLUE F3's.

Right....or a Yellow Bonnet?
Can someone confirm or deny that the powered A units will or will not have sound? The way I read it only the dummy A and Superbass B will have sound. Is that correct?
It was obvious that eventually Lionel would come out with Legacy scale F-3 Warbonnets, and I've been waiting for them (as have my passenger cars). Now that they're here, I'll be getting an ABA set. Passed on the recent Atlas O F-7s because, having been waiting a while for the Lionel Legacy version, I could wait a little longer (and the flat red paint Atlas used erased any doubt for me). These new Legacy versions should be great.

What I read says mentions crew Figures and Railsounds in A unit only. Prior to this only powered A's had sound. Earlier units didn't even have sound in the powered B so it will be interesting to see if that is changing. Sound in all units would be great!

As a relative newcomer to the hobby, I've also been waiting for Lionel to release a Legacy Warbonnet F3/F7 diesel and will also probably get an ABA set with the B being the bass unit, but I'm also looking for passenger cars to go with the ABA set.
Assuming the ABA set is produced with aluminum side panels (as it looks like Lionel is saying they will be), can someone recommend passenger cars that will be a match (or close match) in terms of size and color to the new Lionel set ?
The way the catalog is worded, which is lousy and anyway may or may not be what is actually made, it looks like one A and both B units have sound. It doesn't sound like the trailing A will have sound.
Is this the first Lionel powered B unit that has sound? I know in the past Lionel has had models with sound in both A units, but I don't remember any powered B units with sound.
Still waiting for a Legacy Pennsy version. It looks like whoever makes one with current electronics (Lionel, Atlas, or 3rd Rail if they do any earlier phase) will get my dollars.
Yes, the powered A has sound. The dummy A does not.
Power B has Legacy Railsounds. Dummy B has SuperBass Railsounds.
I am ordering the AA and SuperBass B

Some of the Yellow bonnets ran on same early Amtrak trains on the ATSF, like the TEXAS CHIEF!. To me the sllver ATSF is becoming the Borebonnet!
Was gonna get a set, but saw the price, changed my mind. They cost MORE than my Vision CP ES44 ac Hybrid!!

Yeah, I thought that too but the VL ES44ACs were the last real bargain Lionel made in a high end diesel. The operating features are great and mine has run without any serious issue since I got it. Frankly I doubt we'll see their like again.
I had hopes there would be a VL version of the F3 set and even that it would be die cast but after the marketing failure with the Baldwin Centipede A-A sets I don't think that will happen either.
So, if you want an F3 A-B-B-A set with all units smoke-equipped and Legacy sound in 3 of them the catalog gives that option. (I asked Lionel if the powered B unit has smoke because the catalog does not mention it and they confirmed that smoke is standard on them.)
I have yet to convince myself it's worth the plunge given Lionel's recent QC issues but as the tooling for all these units already exists and earlier versions were reliable, well . . .
One thing I like about the new Legacy F-3s is that the warbonnet curve is the full style curve, which I like that better than the compressed style curve that the previous TMCC scale F-3 engines had. (My preference is also for the impact of the F-3's full red circle, uninterruped by a stainless steel band, as on the F-7s.)

Sharp observation, for which thanks. I had not taken that on board. A little checking around shows that the above is the same paint scheme used on the 2010 Legacy Postwar Scale F3s.
But knowing Lionel's track record with catalog illustrations/text I am starting to second guess what they will produce. Example: catalog says both B units have Legacy Railsounds but I don't think the previous Legacy powered B unit had sound (it's SKU 6-34579).
As these models will have the new smaller Legacy control boards I imagine they could fit sound in them if they want to. Anyway, that's what the catalog says they will have . . .

Love this version of the Warbonnet around where the third port hole would have been, not thrilled by the shortened one depicted in the catalog. It will save me some money when I look for the TMCC ones.
Do any of the new Lionel engines have a working "Mars" light when prototypical? When they re-poped the ALCO PA's it lost the working Mars light (and also had that weird white background under Indian Chief's head rather than just the correct silver body that the TMCC version did) in the second headlight.

They are catalogued expressly as having Mars lights where the prototype did and the past TMCC issues of the Santa Fe F3s certainly had them. I think that the last Legacy issue was the postwar scale version 6-34573 which was a single headlight model (true to the Lionel postwar model and I assume the prototype as well although I have not seen a photo of the latter).
BTW, the TMCC Mars light function was very realistic - better than the Legacy versions I have seen.
Been waiting for SP Daylight Legacy F-3's for a long time. Lionel has not made them since the 1980's F-3's. Ryan, please take note of this.
