Can anyone help with proper way to wire it?

I expect that it's wired fine. Just press Startup on the DCS Remote to get the engine from conventional to DCS mode, or Shut Down, to make it goo dark and quiet.

This and a whole lot more is all in "The DCS O Gauge Companion 2nd Edition", now available for purchase as an eBook or a printed book from MTH's web store site! Click on the link below to go to MTH's web page for the book!

Barry gave the Fix, Here is why (It's in his book, along with a ton of other useful things).

When you power up the layout, the DCS TIU briefly sends a watchdog signal on all the outputs.

All Protosound 2 and 3 engines look for this signal for a few seconds when they power up.

If they see it, they stay dark and silent, waiting.

If they do not see it, they assume the layout is Conventional and power up.

Pressing Startup makes them shift to Command mode with no changes in what they are doing.

I believe Pressing Shutdown will also put them in command and shuts them down.

Then again, I haven't had to do that in a while So the memory fades.

Love the Big Steam Trains!

Russel,

Thanks for the plug for the book - it's appreciated!

A minor correction, if I may. You say:

Pressing Startup makes them shift to Command mode with no changes in what they are doing.

That's correct, with a slight modification. When they come up in conventional mode, sound volume and smoke output are dictated by their respective controls on the engine or tender. When the engine comes up in DCS mode after pressing Startup, the DCS volume and smoke settings kick in.

Your other statement:

Pressing Shutdown will also put them in command and shuts them down.

is completely correct.
