I have 2-3 box cars that for various reasons (falling 4 feet to the concrete floor etc,.) have broken trucks. I have replacement trucks and they cost as much or more than the cars did but there is a learning curve and I am young (retired).
What tool(s) are needed to remove/replace the rivets. The cars can probably be replaced cheaper than fixing them but would like to try my hand on something that is probably simple.

I typically either drill them out or use a Dremel cutting wheel to remove them. I use the Brakeman's Riveting Tool to set new rivets.
hi can u post a picture of the CARS AND WHERE the rivets are shown n I wood be glad to help you rivets are easy to replace usually drill out and install new ones. show me picture n ill tell you for sure!

Becareful when removing the rivet that it does not get so hot it melts plastic. With riveting the hard part of the job is getting the old one out.
You can also replace the rivet with a screw and a nut. Use fingernail polish on the threads so that the nut does not come loose in operation.
