Sun Lounge model. http://www.jacksonvilleterminal.com/Sunlounge2new.jpg
I got another email and thought I'd share the info:
Bob, We have the plans for the car that you mentioned, lot #9613-009. We have made this in HO before. Car cost in O gauge is $79.95 plus $9 shipping per order ( not per car ). Pays to buy more than one at a time and if you order 5 cars at a time, the 6th one is free. Now with that said, I will attempt to answer your list of questions. All of our O gauge cars will come assembled with trucks but un-decorated and not detailed except for the aluminum name plates. ( w/o decals ) We have Seaboard decals in HO but is just too much to stock various road names in O gauge too. Trucks are all metal ( not sprung ) with insulated wheels on one side ( 2 rail ) with an option to add 3-rail pick-ups. This is our own mfg truck and wheel sets. If familiar with our HO line , these are quite similar. We do not make couplers but include a pair of brass, working knuckle couplers in each box. These couplers are made by the Precision Scale Co. Because we have no way of knowing what the modeler is already using , we include this coupler package as a courtesy only to complete a rolling model. Undecorated means that we do no painting or decaling of the car. Un-detailed means that we do not provide roof vents, interiors, lighting, or underbody pieces. Right now our O scale catalog consists of a one page price/ parts list. To get a feel of the line and the custom services, our multi page HO catalog is available for $3 from OK Engines PO Box 355 Mohawk NY 13407.
I'm going to place an order tomorrow, I want to see want these are like
The lack of details is not a big deal to me because I know they're out there. The thing about this is I can FINALLY get a car that matches what the Seaboard had, even if it takes a little extra work to bring it up to today's standards.

Looks very interesting. Could you explain to someone (me) without a local hobby store where you can obtain all the detailing necessary to finish the cars. If I can obtain the necessary details to detail the cars with a minimal amount of duress, I am probably in for the train. The final question then is the sunlounge car and the observation car availability. With a GG1 hauling the train this will be awesome.
In 4 days this topic has had 1000 hits plus. There is interest and perhaps enough interest to persuade the mfgr OK ENGINES O SCALE PASSENGER CARS to offer the train as a package deal.

I know P&D Hobbies sells parts, but there's a whole list of vendors on the Scenery Sub-Forum. If there's still something that can't be found I know I'll just do a post to see if anyone knows where I can get the part.
Good thing is for me the Seaboard cars were aluminum, so no (or not much) painting is required.
Best thing to do is email them about the Sun-lounge car, I think their website said they have plans for Observation cars, the problem is (for Seaboard) that a couple of the OBS cars were modified with diaphragms on the tailend.
The January 1990 issue of Line South (Vol 7, Number 3) has drawing/floor plans for the original Silver Meteor cars delivered in 1939:
22-seat Baggage-Dormitory-Chair car (6000*, 6001, 6002)
60-seat Chair car (6200*, 6203, 6204)
30-seat Chair-Tavern Longe car (6300*, 6301, 6302)
48-seat Dining car (6100*, 6101, 6102, 6103)
60-seat Chair car (6201*, 6205, 6206)
60-seat Chair car (6202*, 6207)
48-seat Chair-Observation Lounge car (6400*, 6401, 6402)
* - delivered in first set of cars.
The car I really wanted is the 10-6 Sleeper "Portsmouth", which I thought was a Pullman-built car. I still think it was, but I also read the only difference between the PS and Budd 10-6 cars were they interiors were reversed(?). I'm not sure how true that is, because you'd also have to reverse the windows and that sounds like all you'd really have to do is turn the car end for end
When I call tomorrow I'm going to ask about the Budd 10-6 Sleepers and see what they say.
Dave...I'll try to take some good photos of the car. If it looks good I'll be buying the others I want to make up "The Tidewater", trains 17-18 that ran on the Portsmouth-Raleigh (previously Norlina) line.

Thanks for the help, I will be out of town for weekend but will contact them early next week re sunlounge and observation cars.
I hope to get the cars together to depict "The Tidewater" trains 17-18 that ran to/from Portsmouth. The consist wasn't all lightweight streamlined cars. From one picture I found:
RPO-Baggage (1) - Heavyweight
Diner (1) - Heavyweight
Coach (2) - Heavyweight or Lightweight
Sleeper (2) - Lightweight
I even found a photo of 2 "E" units and 1 coach!
I only want 1 engine and I think I'll have more problems finding a single "E" unit than I will finding the correct cars Why a single "E" unit isn't offered is beyond me I'm sure I'll end up getting an E8 and having to repaint, just don't know if I want the "Citrus" scheme or the "Mint Green" scheme.

Placed my order this morning and owner Ted Brebeck said it would be ready in a week!!!
More when it comes in.
More when it comes in.
Talk about fast. I got an email from the Ted (the owner) saying my car is being shipped tomorrow!!! Should have it by end of next week so I'll be posting photos then.
Sent e mail to Ted Brebeck this evening re interest in train and specifics re availability of prototypically correct observation and sun lounge cars.
Will keep forum posted as details emerge. 3/15/20104:46 PM

Talked to Ted Brebeck, the owner and the observation car should be available in two months. He said he would post the necessary information at that time. I am excited about a prototypically correct silver meteor, being available soon.
As far as the Lionel passenger car ends fitting on the ends of the cars, when anyone has information one way or the other please post.

I looked yesterday and all I found was a part number for a vestibule bulkhead end - 6205443048 ($20). Try searching on "Bulkhead". There were more "Bulkheads" but not many had photos like the one I mentioned.
After looking at a couple of pictures today the ends were fairly plain, with a bit of what looks like electrical conduit on either side of the diaphragm/door. If I take the plain ends I made and add a door with diaphragm and a couple of lengths of styrene round stock it should be close.
There was one other part (6009547034, $4) but it doesn't have the rounded top.
I said I thought the ends had conduit on them, but after looking at Precision Scale's website I think what I'm seeing is "Anti-Rattle" Brackets and Bars.
PSC does carry seats, tables, etc. and I hope to have their catalog soon. I haven't had a lot of luck finding any ends that I feel will work, so if anyone knows of a good part number let us know! I may try making some out of resin if it gets down to that point.

This may solve the end problem. I do not have an up and running PRR so I pulled out boxes of passenger cars. MTH Premier ends do not come off. Williams (antiques) packed in cardboard ends come off in three pieces. All detailed nicely. Weaver 85 ft streamliner ends come off and appear to be identical to ancient Williams in size and overall detail. Weaver has additions and are probably easier to obtain? The Williams are silver and Weaver are Tuscan. I deliberately photographed the pieces on a paper cutter so all the super scale guys could see exact measurements. I DO NOT have a OK Streamliners model to see if they are the same size. I apologize for quality but this is first try taking pictures and posting..
sorry folks I have thought I was following directions carefully but something apparently got lost in transferring. Can anyone help?
Redid copy paste but still no go

I tried directly copying your links but came up with the same thing, no pictures. Then I plugged in the links in the search area and noticed it changed the tail of the link to "user266/Picture%20001.jpg", works fine.
The bulkhead in pictures 2-3 would work, but you might lose some detail. The opening on the OK body is 2-3/8" wide and 2-1/4" tall.
I found this last night:
PARTS
here:
OLSEN's TOY TRAIN PARTS
From your pictures I think the Weaver/Williams ends would work fine, even with some of the detail lost. If the bottom of the end was kept and sides and top trimmed to fit inside the OK shell there wouldn't be all that much loss of detail because what would be cut off looks like the outer rim of the shell anyway.

I got a tip from Martin Brechbiel on passenger car seats, diaphragms, and tables from Precision Scale.
If you go to their site you can see them if you click on the MISC tab and then Interiors or Diaphragms. Make sure you look at the O scale stuff (I almost ordered the HO diaphragms ):
PRECISION SCALE COMPANY
I just got one of their catalogs and they have a load of parts that before I was unable to find.

I am not very good at reading tea leaves, however there seems to be some smoke here. What do you think.

As a matter of personal curiosity and interest, since you are already modeling the Cal Zep, do you have any interest or plans for a Silver Meteor?

He means they ain't letting on what they're doing so the competition can get the jump on them. That's a good sign, at least they're not sitting back doing nothing.
SEE NEW POST on main page, OK Engines will be making a Silver Meteor, expressly for Forum fans. After all this clamoring I personally have to get in line.
More specific information on main page under OK Engines re purchasing details.
Latest update
OK Engines has finished 10 of 12 cars and is shipping them today.
Mike, After reading the bio on the 10-6 sleepers, I found that they were made by Pullman and not Budd even though they had corrugated roofs. According to the factory info, they were made that way to blend in better with the Budd cars already on the line. Live and learn. I just shipped those cars today along with the plan copies, so I didn't include extra strips for names on the 10-6 cars so will send out some in next shipment. I'll get to that shipment info in a minute.

For the true died in the wool modeler
Seaboard-Coast Modeler web site
#10-January 2010 the newest issue has more detail than you could ever use or expect on Seaboard passenger cars.
If anyone could tell me how to use the decal page, I would be pleased.

NICE!!!
I'm going to have to wait on these cars (AC/Heating unit comes first)
Did you order them with 3-rail wheels or scale wheels? The 52-seat coach and 5-1-4-4 Sleeper I received had scale wheels, something I didn't even think about asking him when I ordered. It's not a big thing, I got some K-Line 3-rail wheels from one of the LHS to swap out.
I replaced the sheet aluminum ends on mine with 3/16" plexiglass. On the diaphragm end, I made 2 bulkheads, one for the outside and one for the interior. I did this so I could make doors/frames out of 1/16" styrene. These 2 I glued in place, then glued the doors/frames onto them (the bulkheads provide a surface to glue the doors to). I drilled 2 holes in the bottom of the outside bulkhead to attach the floor.
On the other end, I made one bulkhead for a semi-tight fit and left it loose (not glued). I also drilled holes in the bottom of this bulkhead to attach the floor.
From looking at photos of real cars, there's not a lot of detail on the ends. brake wheel, housing, chain, diaphragms, handgrabs, anti-rattle hardware for the diaphragms, and that's about it (other than maybe some rivet heads).
As far as the decals in the SCL-Modeler, I haven't tried copying them and printing them out, yet I need to get some decal paper as I ran out of what I had, but until then I might play around with those images to see if they're useable.

Did not even think about wheels scale vs 3-rail. Pictures show same as you had on your cars. When they arrive, hopefully early next week, I will begin modifying with parts from my "ancient" Williams cars.
What did you use for walls inside the cars?
Have you considered replacing couplers with Kadee couplers and how did it work?
As a side note Ted recommended using Brasso on cars to slightly change color so it looks like stainless steel. I will explore and see what happens. Plan on taking pictures as things progress.
I have wondered, since my strips for logos etc are unattached. if it is possible to have a local printshop print directly onto them. Ted has told me how to attach (Marine Goo) them, which is how he does it and they can be removed and reattached with relative ease. I will find out after the cars are here and somewhat modified.
The underbody of my SF SC cars are nicely (understatement) detailed and I wonder since they are detachable, if Scott Mann can be persuaded to sell them separately for a reasonable fee. There is no reward for reinventing the wheel.
Looking forward to arrival. Sometimes time flies and sometime it drags.

Did it, they work fine, but I had to put about a 7/32" shim on the underframe

The strips are aluminum and about 1/4" wide, might be hard printing directly on them

PSC also sells underbody parts/kits, but I forget the prices
Looking forward to arrival. Sometimes time flies and sometime it drags.
I know what you mean, the E7 I bought has just now been picked up so I won't see it until next week
I didn't have to, but I ended up making new truck bolsters (the thing between the sideframes that attaches to the underframe, basically a U-shaped bracket) out of brass, instead of using the Talgo piece. I also made a new floor using 3/16" plexiglass. The old one will work, but I felt the 3/16" offered more rigidity/strength.
Update to car ends.
Cars from left include GGD Santa Fe Super Chief, OK with new end with vestibule. OK with nonvestibule end, OK with original end, car has not been polished with Brasso, ancient Williams with vestibule end.
Marked improvement, IMHO
Have left a phone message for John Keil re detailing parts availability.
Looking good.

There were only two reasons why domes were not used in Washington D.C.:
1. Catenary. PRR would not run occupied dome cars under its live catenary. The catenary started in Potomac Yard in Alexandria and ran north. B&O had to clear out its dome cars before they entered the Washington Union Station terminal district.
2. The tunnel under Capitol Hill from southwest Washington D.C. to Union Station in northeast. There were tight clearances in that twin bore. It is interesting that Amtrak had the tunnel floor lowered to accommodate Super-liner cars on the Cardinal. The other track was undercut a few years ago to accommodate the VRE bi-level commuter cars.
The reason that the Auto Train terminal is located in Lorton Virginia instead of further north in Virginia was because it was the closest spot to D.C. that had enough available real estate to accommodate the auto-rail terminal and its close proximity to Interstate 95. There are no clearance restrictions for domes between SRO interlocking (south end of Long Bridge) and points south.
There are two other PRR tunnels that all NY to Florida trains traveled through - the Hudson River to Penn Station and the East River tunnels to Sunnyside Yard. I don't believe that either of these tunnels had clearance for domes. These tunnels alone would prevent dome operation on NY to Florida trains.
I believe that I read somewhere that these tunnels are going to be upgraded by Amtrak by lowering the roadbed.
Joe
It would be difficult for Amtrack to lower the roadbed in the tunnels into Penn Station NYC, because the PRR already lowered the roadbed years ago to allow installation of caternary into and out of NYC. The original design allowed for 3rd rail only and the decision to do long range electrification necessitated installing caternary in the tunnels.

HELP
I have a problem and need advice. The aluminum car body and the Williams ends are not a perfect match(close but no cigar). There are some gaps that I need to fill with some sort of filler and then match color. A filler which has some structural body when set is obviously necessary.

The bodies look great after polishing with Brasso.

Use JB Weld, 2-part mix.
I made the non-Vestibule end of my 2 cars slightly loose so I could pull the floor w/interior out of the shell. On the Vestibule end I glued the outer bulkhead and an inner bulkhead inside the shell. On both end bulkheads I drilled holes for the floor mounting screws.
Loctite also makes some plastic epoxy (check Lowes) that holds very well.

Thanks will try and obtain tomorrow.
Thanks Bob
Went to Lowes and found Loctite epoxy putty. It sets in 5 minutes and dries to off white to grey, which without painting should be close.

Glad that did the job for you! I must have used a quart of it building a 1/6 airplane a couple of years ago.
Are you putting interiors in the cars? The only seats I've bought so far are the Precision Scale seats, haven't looked for any others.
I made some seats out of oak cove moulding. The overall shape was close, but still had to take my Dremel to it to flatten the seats a bit.
Right now I've got about 5 projects going on and can't finish any of them .
I need to put them all down and pick one to complete, but it's easier on the pocketbook to do some preliminary work (figuring out what else has to be bought) on all of them. That way I can place 1 or 2 orders instead of one for each project. I'm waiting for some Kadee couplers from AM Hobbies to arrive so I can determine what shims I need to add. With my Williams E7 just out of the paint remover bath I'll be looking that over also to get together a parts list.
If I had known Ted B. was going to be so quick on the draw on the Silver Meteor cars I probably would have waited instead of trying to "build" The Tidewater, trains 17-18 . I'm still searching for a heavyweight round-roof RPO-Baggage car like one Seaboard used. I've seen one that is close, but not 100% and I'm not sure if it can be modified (windows blanked in and doors added) without it looking like a hack job.

Eventually I will put interiors in all.
Right now I finally figured out how to install ends so they work. I am going to cut the metal frame from my old Williams into two pieces, trim the OK base and mount the ends on the metal and screw the metal into the original base, whatever it is.
If I am succesful I will have one detachable end and the old OK base, (removable) to mount interiors.
I am waiting for a reply re my attempt to buy 12 pairs of trucks from Scott Mann. The SF SC trucks should look great on this set. If this doesn't work option two is see if MTH will sell me trucks. Supposedly the have a scale version of passenger trucks that will fit.
Either way, if my eyeballing is correct I will have a minimal difference re Kadee mounting, when I get to that. For whatever reason the old Williams are significantly lower than more modern cars. I may have a more prototypically looking car.
As a minor item, using the metal base to mount the trucks the GGD trucks should fit with minor tinkering.
Considering I am starting from scratch, (never did anything like this before)I feel I am actually getting there with relatively minor faux paux.
I wish a spell checker was available. Printing my questionable spellings on Word and using its spell check is a pain. But it works.
The only word is are we having fun yet?

Update tonight
I have installed Williams ends and although not a perfect fit they will work nicely.
I have ordered diaphrams amd all necessary "stuff" to make them prototypical. Kadee couplers and chairs and tables are also ordered.
I have left emails for Scott Mann and have received no reply re SF SC trucks, which are the correct size and beautifully detailed.
I have left a message for Dryfus Hudson on his page (K Line Kitchen Sink) if he can help me with Keil-Line. I have printed off 12 pages of parts but to figure out what fits what Budd or PS lightweight streamliner cars is beyond me.
Enclosed are some update pictures on my rail, the difference in height is due to different trucks. As a side note look at all 3 52 seat coaches, the lower one is cut wrong with the vestibule on the wrong end. tish tisk Have sent email re same tonight.

Update
RE Keil Line
Just received phone call from Mrs. Keil. John is under weather but improving, and business is open. They are sending catalog with pictures of products. Anyone needing product can call 815-728-0595. Great news!
Now I can obtain rooftop details for all cars.
52 passenger coach returned for vestibule cut on wrong end. The show goes on.
Awaiting decal paper from Microscale, have obtained correct Seaboard font from railfonts.com They have correct fonts for many lines and this way you can do decals with correct font.
I need font for one word for PRR. Does anyone know correct font and color for PRR passenger car, specific word Parlor? Plan to relabel GGD PRR heavyweight sleeper to parlor, and redo interior, as part of clocker set. All things take time.
Scott Mann and I have communicated and he does not have 12 pairs of trucks, only 6 but he said he will check and see if he can find 6 more pairs. Appreciate his help looking.
Interior details awaiting shipment.
Awaiting patiently?

Mail is good
Keil Line catalog with pictures has arrived.
Microscale decal paper and liquids to do decals also here.
Ordered PRR decals from Champ, hopefully right color and size.
Ted Brebeck at OK Engines e-mailed and hopefully the remaining 3 cars should be here soon. Included observation and sun lounge cars.
Scott Mann cannot help with trucks, will have to use supplied trucks.
Will be busy in next few days, weeks.

The saga continues.
Decaling is an aquired art. The first two or three were complete disasters and had to be redone. I thought I was smart and made extras of everything on my microscale decal paper and found out I was still short. Found out the next day after drying 8 hours plus, as per directions if you touch decal or breathe the wrong way it is toast. After I sealed with satin sealer, hopefully they will stay.
I did nine cars and pictures show them as per consist with three cars still missing. The cars are in order for consist and are prototypically correct down to correct names and car numbers respectively for Silver Meteor.
The mising cars are sunlounge # four car and last two cars, namely one 52 seat coach and 48 seat coach-observation car. Supposedly sunlounge and coach should be here "shortly". Observation may be somewhat "longer".
I am waiting for roof details from Keil-Line and interior and bottom details and diaphrams from Keil-Line and PSC. After these products are here and included then I will begin sealing around ends.
Haven't had the nerve to begin Kadee couplers yet, someday soon.
In back row is baggage dorm, followed by 10-6 sleeper x 2.
In front after missing sun lounge is additional 10-6 sleeper, follower by 5-2-2 sleeper.
First is 11br sleeper, followed by diner.
Last but not least are two 52 seat coaches. The last two cars are pending.
