Can anyone tell me what the value of the smoke unit resistor is on a Lionel 6-28749 Jersey Central Camelback. This is a TMCC upgradable loco with a mechanical smoke unit. Lionel has a part number for the smoke unit but not for the resistor and I would much rather replace the resistor than the entire unit. What causes my confusion is that on fan units I know the 27 ohm resistor is the most common but I am not sure what to use on this since it had to function in both the conventional mode with what I believe was was straight track voltage and then In TMCC mode with the R2LC able to switch smoke on and off. Thanks, John

Normally it also is a 27 ohm. G

Your part number for the 27ohm is 6008141055. They are available from Lionel. When using this element, do NOT put the sleeve back on.

Marty, do you wrap batting around the resistor or just let it rest on top ? j
Never embed the resistor totally in the wick material, that will give you very poor performance. It should be firmly in contact with it, but about half the resistor should be exposed as the hot surface is where the fluid is evaporated and turns into "smoke".
What John said.
I hardly ever turn smoke on but do install fan units in all my TMCC steam upgrades. What I have been doing exposes just about half the element to air, I have been taking a strand of batting about 1/8" in diameter and doing a one wrap spiral the length of the resistor. Thank you gentlemen. j
