Good Morning Everyone,
I will start off with a refinery that I constructed in the past for Tony Lash. Lets see what you have been working on.

Good morning
I believe I learned from this scene in the past that the large storage tanks had floating heads. Such a marvelous project Alan.
I always wonder just where your many completed tasks are displayed…?
Thanks again for sharing.
John
Good Morning Alan, That is one super modeling job!
Very nice Alan. Now I have the "Hess Toy Truck" commercial theme running through my head......

Wow talk about a refinery complex! Nice work Alan. Tony Lash had a really spectacular layout.
Life has been busy so I’ve moved slowly with the hydrocal project. I added some wooden flooring, finished some doors and windows, constructed the roof and painted the brick side of the building.
Next up will be painting the plaster/stone sides, some weathering, and interior details.
I haven’t attached the side shutters yet to the left door, but will do so after the brick gets a final wash. Matching the color of the plastic shutters (left) to the shutters cast into the plaster (right) was tough - but I think I got it close enough.
Alan, to have such a neat facility on a train layout would be just awesome, although I would tell people it's Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory
In the spirit of industrial models, here's some shots of my industrial wharf that includes a two-story engine house and related facilities along the wharf. It's amazing how much time we put into building the structures and scenes on our layouts, good therapy I reckon.
The Lionel Diner being reassembled. Many of the original parts of the roof detail are lost. I'm using Walther's HO roof detail products. For a small building like this they are fine, especially after a dry-brushing of rust colored paint over a metallic baseline spray.
Have a great Sunday and safe travels to all this week....
Peter
Stubby, did you use the shower door glass method for water?
Peter nice renovation of the diner.
Next is the Korber Union Ice House.....I left off last week with a coat of Rustoleum Flat Red which I dulled down with clear coat.
Next, was dry brushing....Holiday Red, Terra Cota & Antique White....
Then, panel assembly....
I'm a fan of extra bracing.....
Next, is panel assmebly
I was afraid that I was going be out 10K for a new roof.....but, I was able to do some patches......
...and, done.....one final black wash will be done when the ice platform is done......
Upstairs, on the new layout....."down the block" from the passenger station.....
The ice platform is complicated and the instructions are poor......remember, this kit is pre Rich Redmond and pre Steve Nelson Korber (both of these fellows have improved the product and made the instructions MUCH BETTER, and this is a discontinued kit from the 90s).
I will need time to plan and think it through.....so, that means post York......
Have a great Sunday and safe travels to all this week....

coach joe, no i used toilet paper glue method. my water was odd shaped as it ran around the sugar beet refinery so the tp method was more flexible for me. i did 4 layers of tp and glue, couple layers of glue to smooth it out a little more, painted, sealed with highgloss acrylic sealer, couple more layers of glue to add some depth and finally 3 more layers of acrylic sealer. it’s really a pretty easy way to make water just takes a while because of dry time between layers.
Peter,
Thank you for the safe travels. How did you know I was boarding the Auto Train as we speak ? I guess you meant that for everyone York bound.

Peter nice renovation of the diner.
I just use a textured fluorescent light panel with calk added as additional waves. Paint water for your area.

Peter, that Lionel diner is a great model kit that stands out as a nice scale detailed model. Here is my version of it, with interior detailed.
There is some incredible talent in the above work. Very very nice gentlemen

All travelers, Alan……..
If I wasn’t working at the VA tomorrow AM, I would be at Staples Mill Station in Richmond around 0830, to wave at you on the Autotrain as it motors by!

Awesome guys, thanks for sharing.
this week I was making trees, covering a hillside with brush, rocks, and trees, and laying out the track for a small engine servicing facility.
Some early fall trees made from sedum.
Some in process before the hairspray and ground foam
working on the hillside to the left of the oil terminal
eventually that lot and roadway will be coated with fine gravel
My friends Sam and Lynn came over today and helped me start laying out a modern small engine facility. I quickly mocked up the building out of foam core board. Likely will put a covered service platform for the two tracks in front of the building, sanding tower, etc

Beautiful scene and beautiful work……as a nephrologist, I love the warnings on the methanol tank…..it’s nasty stuff and alway challenging to deal with!
The trees are magnificent, too!

I can appreciate the attention to detail you guys go to. Here's a view coming out of the 2nd story of my 2-story engine shed as shown earlier. I built the structure using 4-IHC kits and made it extra long ~ about 4 ft., and reinforced it using wood trusses.
Sirt I'll have to check the lighting aisle in the home improvement stores for that one. I'm used to the "pebble" finish. Years ago I found one that also had a grid pattern. I thought some paint on the grid and a few trusses for support and voila a glass roof over the tracks at Metro Terminal. Alas, it never came to be.
