Can anyone throw some light on this special train set that was supposedly silver body and gold trim and was donated at the TCA’s 25th anniversary??

Try going through the old TCA Quarterlies from 1978. They are accessible via the internet, as long as you are a TCA member.
You might also look at the Quarterlies c. 2003, as I think they may have discussed it at the 50th anniversary.
According to the summary of the 25th Anniversary event published in the Fall 1979 issue of the TCQ (Train Collectors Quarterly) the set was a reproduction standard gauge Mayflower set manufactured by George Sirus which was auctioned off at the banquet. It was 8 feet long and was silver plated and gold trimmed. The hammer price was 11.5K.
Also presented at the 25th Anniversary event was a gold plated version of the Mayflower to be auctioned off at the 50th annual convention. Lou Redman suggested the idea to George Sirus and he provided that set as well. The gold plated 50th anniversary set is pictured on the cover of the January 2004 issue of the TCQ. It was auctioned off at the 50th Anniversary banquet.
At the 25th anniversary there was a third Sirus reproduction Mayflower which was given to Lou Redman in recognition of his long service to the hobby and the TCA. That set was also a silver anniversary set but the cars had gold roofs.
VERY rare trains not likely to be easily parted with!
