The ol' UP can't seem to catch a break this year. Isn't this their second derailment?

Second derailment in how many hours?
The offroad dye in the diesel makes for eerie imagery.

That picture looks like a model train de-railment. Looking at the car damages, a lot of energy was released smashing into each other.
With all this climate change weather, I am surprised there aren't more de-railments on other systems especially east coast (NS, CSX).
That red dye will be one of their worst cleanup problems, it permeates everything, it looked like the consist was mostly auto racks, wonder if that will create shortages in auto delivery?
One of the locomotives was a NS, I wonder how they insure pool locomotives when involved in derailments like this?
I assume this is Iron county in Utah? (There's more than one 'Iron county' in the US.)

You wreck it, you buy it. Sometimes the owner railroad will allow the railroad that wrecked it to fix it, but that is not the norm if there is really serious damage. Other times the unit is shipped back to its owner for repair.
Railroads try to cheat each other in these situations, not one of the most noble aspects of the railroad business.
Could UP send a like locomotive to NS from its fleet to teplace?

The smaller the margin the greater the throat cutting. j

It's a story from KSL in Salt Lake. So yep in Iron county Utah. The line runs to/from Vegas there.
