Weaver 0-8-0 and ERR Commander M?

First off, what electronics are in that locomotive?  If it has the TAS setup, the CC-M isn't going to work.  You can obviously replace everything with the ERR equipment.  Since there is no documentation, maybe some pictures of the innards would help us.

I realize it has TMCC, but I need to know specifically what board set they used.  Is it all Lionel boards or is it TAS?

The ERR Commander M (and Cruise Commander) is a cruise upgrade only and may not fix your issues.  It sounds like you need to replace the current TMCC boards with new ones, like ERR's DC Commander upgrade.  Let see what others say.

I had Weaver add ERR cruise to mine (not sure if the 'M' version), plus 4-chuffs/rev, and it runs great.  Hopefully you can get yours running soon.

That's why I keep asking what TMCC package is in it.  I've got a Weaver locomotive with Lionel boards, and I've also seen them with TAS boards.  Knowledge is key to knowing what it'll take to upgrade...

I can attest to Gunrunners assesments. Afterall, He beautifully upgraded my Weaver PRR C-1[smoke and all!]

It also can be a simple as a bad tether connection.  So yes you can have this repaired, upgraded to ERR if necessary, change the tether configuration for better operation ( if that is the problem).  G

Its hard to make out the motor driver (out of focus) but whatever it is you should be able to use a Cruise M. the rest is Lionel modular.

  If it is as easy as replacing a tether what type would you recommend?  I can not find a 6 prong tether on Lionels site.  Would a MTH tether male and female  work,  only using the six wires I need?

I think so. Process of elimination. The two audio boards are clearly seen on the left side. I am guessing the R2LC was taken out of the opposite side?? The motor driver is not in the engine so I am assuming whats left is the motor driver.

Yes Pete I took out the R2LC board to show it is an 08 board.  As noted above,  It has a 4 pin Molex cable. It is inverted

Looks like the standard DCDR, so the CC-M should drop right in.  The DCDR should have a black 4-pin connector and a white 4-pin connector.

First order of business is figure out what is going on with the tether and lack of sound. I am currently working on a swivel mount on the engine side a' la K-Line to minimize flex issue with traditional fixed mounts. Stay tuned.

Thank you JOHN and PETE.  I am going to look for a male, female tether hook up and see what happens with that first.  I'll see if that fixes the start stop hesitating problem along with the no sound.

Yes an MTH tether would work.  You also might get some options with other types.  For sound, pull those board and reseat, may be as simple as that.  If not you can pull chips and reseat with the PLCC Tool.  If still no go check speaker and swap RS boards with another RS 4.0 until you find the problem.   G

Here is an update on my problem with this engine.  I changed out the large original 6 pin tether and re soldered a new one on.  Tried it on the bench rollers all a ok.  Runs great forward and reverse no problems.  Next I changed out the speaker.  I am still trying to figure out why no sound in the Weaver 0-8-0.  I got a new speaker hooked it up and ran it on the bench and can here the reed switch working but no railsounds.  Tested the volume pot that has continuity.  Replaced the power board and railsound boards still no sound.  Ran it for a while then speaker died.  Anyone know why this happened?  I am stumped.  Otherwise the engine runs good but no sounds.  Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

I changed speaker and resat all the boards now it sounds all good, go figure?

Laz.  Where did you get your Cruise commander M?  I am looking for one for a K-Line upgrade.  Thanks.
