What's your favorite Marx Steamer?
OK, I'll go on record. I really enjoy all of the Marx steamers, but I think the little 999 is the pick of the litter.

999 is definitely a great one. My preference is for 333, however.
the 333 is a beautiful locomotive, great detail.
same with the 999 and 666. my 333 & 666 smoke great, especially the 666, and it runs at warp speed.
I think my favorite one is the 897. The litho really makes it a unique engine and it fits well with the 6" tin I usually run behind it.

That 897 is pure Marx. It makes you smile just to look at it.
A few years ago my late father-in-law gave me a set with a grey 1666 with the sound of power tender, and a 999 set I really like both of those engines. I have a few other Marx engines but those two were the first trains I ever got and mean a lot to me.
That Sound of Power is nice to have. Most folks don't realize that Marx beat Lionel in making electronic sound.
I like the 666 and the 1666 because of their awesome smoking abilities and they work well with my postwar Lionel O-27 cars. Old Lionel locos are far more expensive and from what I've seen don't smoke as well! lol
But I guess my absolute favorite right now is the 999 and the 3/16" scale tin trains.
My favorite Marx locomotive? Any windup Commodore Vanderbilt:
I have to go with the smoking 333 Pacific. I think its the nicest looking steam locomotive Marx produced. For me second place goes to their peppy #666 2-4-2. I have two of them and they still smoke and run great.
I am with"handyandy". Wish Marx had made more than 21 (very, very rare 22nd)
3/16ths freights, and headend cars for the passengers (not to mention more passenger roadnames)

Now that's a good looking group of Vandies there Windup Guy! You may have the market cornered!
Here's mine....my Marx set from 1956......

I always appreciate videos, as I can't even figure out how to load mine into the PC, let alone post them. Nice work, Putnam Division! I think the MONON is quite a surprising puller for its size.
the 3/16 is beautiful and you can't beat the litho work. I work at a Litho plant and se what all goes into it.
Steamer: What does your plant lithograph? The Flynns must have found somebody
who still did/does it, but Ohio Art (NW Ohio), who once did litho toys including farm playsets, laughed when I asked about it back before New Marx.
we do jar caps(Gerbers babay food,Old El Poaso Salsa,Classico Spag sauce, etc) we shear metal for Ohio Art sometimes.
Here's another vote for the sound equipped 1666.

A friend of mine makes wraps for the Marx 3/16ths passenger cars - I'll see if he can post some pix of his work.

I'd like to see those.
I just love my 333 as it's one beautiful engine but my MARX 2-4-2 "500" Army Supply train engine still amazes me. Been in the family since new (1939) and has never had any work done to it other than some cleaning and a little oil ever now and then and still runs like new. Marx made some truly amazing products.
