Just for fun, I worked-up a version of Garrett's 4x13 design (4x12 later posts) from his thread at THREAD, [its a good thread, with pictures and a video - check it out] adding some features that go beyond his Christmas layout for a concept for a more permanent layout, adding reverse loops and cross-overs. Outside diameter is O44 compound - should run most O42 equipment. The inside route is O36 minimum. With easements of O48 and O72. The curving lower middle section is O72. Turnouts are O60 and O48. Add spurs where you like. -Ken

Modified the idea with another set of cross-overs going through a crossing. This set of cross-overs creates a "twice-around" train route.

With the cross-overs going through the crossing, the cross-overs at the top of the layout can be removed, saving some $$.

Adding some spurs:
The curve in the middle beneath the crossing are two O96 sections. The track center spacing is 4.25", which is tight but works fine for O-36 traditional equipment, even the LionChief+ SD60M and Berkshire with passenger cars on my layout.
Turnouts are now O72 and O48: there are two O72 turnouts at the bottom making the reverse curves.
The plan has three routes: the outside perimeter loop, the inside return-loop to return-loop, and the twice-around through the crossing.

Here is version in 4x12, thinking more folks would find a 12' length convenient to build and fit in their space.

Ken, I always enjoy viewing your enhanced versions of the layouts that forum members post.
Keep up the great work.
The same here too I also your enjoy enhanced versions of the layouts that forum members post.
Ken, these are really nice. Great track work, as always.

Thanks very much for your kind words gentlemen!
This next is the logical continuation, now to a form not at all resembling Garrett's design from his thread, but instead, looks like some of my earlier designs posted to this forum. Here, the crossing is replaced with turnouts, and a fourth route is created: 1) Outside loop, 2) Inside loop, 3) Inside reverse-loops, 4) twice-around through the cross-overs.

Because the 4' depth is well beyond a comfortable reach, I trimmed the layout surface to allow a deeper reach into the interior of the 4-cubed Track Plan: 4x12, O44, 4-Routes.

Ken....you are amazing!
Peter
Slightly perfected 4x12 4-cubed track plan 4 1/4" center spacing, with fewer sections overall. Hard to see the difference but the "indent" in the center bottom is about 3/4" deeper.
Could be constructed as two 4x6 sections, for a more easily movable and transportable layout. Could even be a temporary layout.

I am new so I am sorry if this is improper, but I am trying to build something exactly like this for my kids and I, how do I get the details to the track needed to build this layout. thanks in advance. Jon
Your best bet is to send an e-mail to Ken (the address is in his member profile), telling him specifically for which plan you would like the details. You might also ask him for a plan picture that identifies which track pieces go where in the plan.
Chuck
Chuck thank you, wasn't sure of the proper Etiquette. Thank you
Hi Bigjon78, here is a list (unsorted) as it comes from AnyRail. Copy and paste it to sort it.
Remember that two1-3/8" sections come with each O60 turnout, included in the total for those sections.
Hope this helps - Ken. Thanks for the interest in this plan!
