I have a 2-piece layout that was once the base of our Christmas tree display. It is a sheet of 1/2" AC ply with 1 x 4 stringers and 1 x 4 frame. It is cut in half to make it portable when the layout was not on display in an earlier home, and when assembled the two halves are bolted together. And its pre-wired.
I now have the space to leave this unit together, so I ordered Mianne benchwork and converted the layout to permanent status. However, over the last 30 years the movement of the MTH track I used has taken its toll. The RealTrax is crumbling due to age and frequent dis- and re-connections. The switches are hand-thrown and the plastic parts are breaking off. Bye-bye MTH track, I just don't like it anymore.
I have decided to go traditional, using the same track plan but with switches in different locations. I have the Post War Lionel 031 I need, along with 022 and 042 switches. I ordered Menards 042 curves for the outer loop.
