Starting new construction 4x16
Replies sorted oldest to newest
That is a nice size table . My current Table is 10x6 .
if you plan to use 0-48 radius curves you need go to a 5 x 16 instead .
Good Luck !
You can use an O45 for the outside curve and not be at the edge. That is what I used on my 4x16 many moons ago. I had two O36 loops on the inside at each end and a O31 up on trestle's inside both O36 loops. Nothing connected, all separate.
What are your plans for the 4x16 layout? Are you looking for suggestions?
Yes 4x16 or 5x16. Layouts and list of tracks and switches i would need to create the choice i make.
You will get a ton of help here. Just ask the questions and you will be rewarded with many ideas.

What type of track were you thinking of using? That's a good something people will need to know before you get any designs.
I am a novice to 0. What would you recommend. Lionel FasTrack seems like the way to go . But you can't create a nice ballast effect. Need layout s for the 4X16 or 5x 16 if more layouts available.

Fastrack is a great way to go. Easy to use and functional.
As for "ballast" ... take a look around this Forum and others to see what some guys have done to make the plastic FAstrack edges look extremely realistic.
Good luck.
FasTrack next to Traditional O gauge track......
Woodland Scenics ballast.....3 parts medium gray and 1 part cinders.....the Traditional track has been "touched up" with other mixtures since the initial application

I have to agree with Mike, if you can make it 5 feet wide, 054 curves will let you run a few more engines and longer cars. Even trains with shorter cars and engines look better. My layout I am building is around the walls in an 11x11 room, so it is a different animal. However, I am very happy with my decision to find a way to put in 054 curves on my twice around plan.
Mike, the photographs look great (as I expected)
Nice I was going to use Ross. Other members are telling me to go 5x16 more versatility with Loco size.
Just using the forum to help jumpstart my endeavor. Not looking for the cure for cancer. Some people take thing to seriously. I thank all who have info for me.
