Here is a modular layout for Andy, a forum member, designed to fit in one of his garage stalls.   Its an 8X14 space, and Andy wants the design to be modular in case he moves in the next couple of years.   The modules are based on a 2X6 footprint, but you can see that only two of the modules adhere to that exact size, but this general size will be easy to disassemble and move when the time comes.

Andy wanted to use Atlas-O track, with an O-72 outer loop.   The inside loop is O-63, with #5 cross-overs connecting the mainlines.   There is a siding and engine storage track that is O-72 with O-72 turnouts.   The rest of the turnouts are O-54, limiting locomotives and cars to that minimum diameter once off the O-72 mainline and storage tracks.

Access is through two 32" lift-out bridges, leading into a comfortable operating space.   There is a small yard, and a number of industries to be serviced, a large station at the left, and a smaller below.   Comments and suggestions are most welcome!

Thanks Ken for helping me with this design...I took one of Ken's previous designs and contacted him and this is how he adjusted it for me.  The only thing I really asked for was 2 loops, some sort of yard and to be able to accomodate a TW Trainworx Truss bridge that my wife ordered for me for my birthday.  I haven't received it yet, but will have to get a 2nd one to fit on the layout.  All of the outer loop is 072 curves and the inner is 063.  The reason for the "sharp" turn was to be able to fit the 32"  bridges.  Not sure they would fit otherwise.  Maybe if I straightened out the front portion of the layout and had the removable bridges in the front instead of corner...

Thank you everyone, I appreciate the kind words and comments!

Paul, take a look at this next image, I think that it addresses your concern.  The angle between Morton's Salt and the bridges is really 135 degrees, not actually a sharp corner.   But it would seem to stick out into the direction of traffic flow until you look at the plan without the lift-out bridges.   Clearly, its the bridge anchors on the right that stick out into the traffic flow, once a person has navigated this (actually a generous 30" passageway) the space opens up.

I don't like to make assumption about how folks will construct their benchwork, but if this is to be constructed of 2" thick foam sheets (my recommendation for this layout), then its very easy to cut a nice smooth corner as shown: (better!)

How about the corner to the lower-right of the bridges?   Well, depends on whether there is a wall there or other support, but if this angle is sort of "free-standing", then it makes sense to trim this down as well.

There is only one wall that will touch the layout...the top of the layout, no windows or other impediments.  To the right of the bridge is the garage door, but will have about 1 1/2 feet before the door and to the left of the Station is a walkable area, but it does have a storage cabinet within 2-3 feet of it...about 18" shorter when the cabinet door is open.  The front (bottom) of the layout is near where the other garage stall that I park my car.  The total garage inside space is approximately 18x18...so that is how I came up with the 8x14 usable space for the layout.
