Has anyone mounted accessory switches/buttons on top of the layout near/next to accessory vs building a control panel ? How did that work out for you ?

I mount power and siding controls on the fascia or on top of the layout.
Here's the panel for my freight yard, a switch for each yard track.

Cut a batch of switch plates out of acrylic and paint the table top color. These switches are scattered all around my Run Room. My control panels with turnout switches are out of reach of most "kids".
