Two books that I know of both by Alan R. Schuweiler
Greenberg's Guide to American Flyer Wide Gauge ( standard gauge trains )
Greenberg's Guide to American Flyer Prewar O Gauge
Enjoy
Frank
My favorite - covers prewar (O and Wide Gauge), as well as postwar (S and HO).
I also have a thin paperback book that covers AF Wide Gauge trains. I'll have to dig it out and get the title and author.
The books mentioned so far are all out of print and a bit pricey. But, sometimes you can get lucky through Amazon or a local train show.

Hi Jim
That book is American Flyer Wide Gauge by Russell C. Park
Its 32 pages 96 color illustrations. The color pictures of the trains are tiny so they are hard to see. The book is yet another reference so it has some value but could have been so much better with larger pictures.
Enjoy

And there’s also this FREE reference with scans of all pages of all Gilbert-era catalogs: MyFlyerTrains.Org - A.C. Gilbert Catalogs Index

Here is another thread that has dealt with resources for information on Prewar American Flyer

If you do a google search for American Flyer 3/16 O you will find some interesting sites as well

Too bad these catalogs are just barely "prewar".
Do you know of any reference for trains from the 20s-30s?
Are the HSL Inc catalogs on CD still available? I know they lost permission to publish the Lionel stuff at the end of September, but don't know if they can still offer the AF products. Their website ordering system looks to be still up and running http://www.hslinc.com/dahome/dahome.html.
They offer(ed) a Chicago Era CD with catalogs from 1907-37 as well as the 1938 and up Gilbert CD.
