I have the Amtrak lake shore set /complete and the silver spike cars but not the 8903/8904 amtrak alco's of course I'm also looking for the elusive amtrak diner car 16048 which seems to be a big monty python and the holy grail search

My parents got me the Lionel Lake Shore limited set for me at Christmas back in 1976
I had the full box set with the extra cars and the unpowered Alco B unit. I've added the Combine Car at the Dinner car from the Silver Spike set to my Lake Shore set.
It's still my favorite MPC era train set!
I too got the set for Christmas sometime in the early '80s. My brother and I had to share it, but we got all of the extra cars and the B unit. Still have it and it is a favorite even though I prefer all the scale stuff now. Nothing beats running it and my Amtrak RDCs!!
Our powered ALCO was "upgraded" shortly after we got the set. We decided that the ALCO wasn't a good puller so we traded the chassis for a post war ALCO chassis with magna traction. We then had to carefully cut out a space for the front coupler to poke through up front. I'll try and get a picture up here this weekend.
On the paint of the diner shown above, does the striping include the white background? It really bummed me out as a kid when they came out with more Amtrak but got so cheap that they couldn't add the white paint!! What was that all about!
