I recently became the beneficiary of a small collection of high quality On3 locomotives, cars, track and accessories.

Though my layout is currently O standard gauge, I am completely enamored with narrow gauge lines, particularly the

Durango and Silverton and Cumbres and Toltec. I am going to finish the Munoz Lines before I embark on a narrow guage

layout but I would appreciate some suggestions with regard to a starting point.

Track plan ideas, construction techniques for a high quality On3 pike, pitfalls to avoid, etc.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Please know that my e-mail will be spotty for a while and hopefully will not be seen as disrespectful if I cannot reply

promptly.

So many thanks,

Eliot

Scrapiron, First you need to lay track.  Just kidding. There are a lot of NG books with a lot of information.  If you have access to narrow gauge books, you should get some ideas

on what you want to do.  Take your time.  If you have 101 Track plans, which has HO plans galore.  Just double the size of the drawings.  There is a good plan for the RGS that has been tempting me for years.

Eliot, I was bitten by the narrow gauge bug while on a trip on the Cumbres and Toltec a couple of years ago when our timing was perfect, the Aspens were in full color.  I had admired narrow gauge layouts for years, but not on my layout!  Now I decided I had to do a On30 loop.  What I am doing is a simple loop in a 8 by 16 foot area with a siding for a resort hotel on one end and a small town on the other.  It is taking some time to do the scenery, but watching that little steamer, with its Tsunami sound system is great.

I've been doing the addition a section at a time, here is a try at the scene on the C&T that inspired me - minus the pink foam!

hotel

The hotel is done, now all I need to get is some passenger equipment to bring the guests here.  They are riding on the flat car now, not happy.

Just standard Bachman equipment so far, but so neat!
